In the fall, when Meghan Markle's maternity leave comes to an end, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are heading to Africa for a royal tour. Following in the footsteps of his mom, Princess Diana, Prince Harry has always had special ties to Africa -- and the trip he's taking with his wife and son, Archie Harrison, is an effort to continue her passionate work.

  • Harry reportedly will travel to Angola, a country where his mother famously visited in January of 1997.

A few months before her death, Princess Diana famously walked across an active minefield in Angola to learn how de-miners clear away explosives.

When Harry visits Angola, he'll be doing so in part with The Halo Trust, a charity that helps clean debris leftover from wars -- particularly land mines. According to the Daily Mail, palace aides are exploring the idea of Meghan and baby Archie going with Harry to Angola.

  • For at least part of the tour, Harry and Meghan will be traveling with their new addition.

Where Archie will go with his parents is yet to be determined, but at least part of Harry and Meghan's trip will have them visiting Malawi to help the prince's charity, Sentebale.

A royal insider told the Mirror: “This is all about wanting to fulfill his mother’s legacy and showing his wife and baby son the places that have had the most positive effect on him in his life."

The source also added: “Harry has made no secret of what an influence his mother has been on him. His trip to Africa comes at a time in his life where he has become a parent himself. Diana had a great affinity with children and recognized the worth of having boots on the ground could effect change in such an important way.”

  • Although nothing has been officially announced yet, there have been rumblings Harry and Meghan may be temporarily moving to Africa some point in the next few years.

The Express is reporting that a "major project is currently underway" which would have Harry and Meghan embarking on an extended stay in Africa, where they would focus on issues involving conservation, the environment, and education.

Again, nothing is official yet, but it's been reported that the duke and duchess may spend up to six months at a time in Africa over the next few years.

  • Going to Africa for their first royal tour as a family couldn't be more perfect for Prince Harry.

Not only has he always had special ties to the country, but he's also continuing the work of his late mother, who'd be so proud of him right now.

On International Mine Awareness Day in 2017, Harry spoke about the work his mother did in an effort to ban land mines during her final days.

“Some believed she had stepped over the line into the arena of political campaigning -- but for her this wasn’t about politics; it was about people," he said during a speech. “She knew she had a big spotlight to shine, and she used it to bring attention on the people that others had forgotten, ignored or were too afraid to support.”

If only Diana could see her son now.
