Looks like reality is finally starting to set in for a certain Hollywood star. Word is Lori Loughlin is panicking about the possible jail time that's likely headed her way. To be honest, it's pretty understandable considering the charges she's facing as each come with a maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars.

  • Lori Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, now face up to 40 years in prison (each).

As crazy as it sounds, 40 years is the maximum prison sentence the Hollywood couple and others could face for their alleged involvement in a college admissions scandal of all scandals. The numbers break down to a 20-year maximum for initial charges of "conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud" and an additional 20-year maximum for the new charges -- "conspiring to commit fraud and money laundering" -- Lori and Mossimo were recently hit with, thanks to a federal grand jury.

Obviously, we highly doubt Lori or her husband will serve 40 years behind bars (20 years are the max they could serve for each of the two charges) ... but seeing as her plea deal came with jail time (a minimum of two years), prison is looking more and more like a reality.

... and now, they're freaking out.

Aside from Lori reportedly thinking the college admissions scam wasn't a "huge deal," she and her husband rejected their plea deal as it had minimal jail time attached to it.

  • "She has been in complete denial and thought maybe she could skate by," a source tells E! News.

"She refused to accept any jail time and thought the DA was bluffing," the insider continues about Lori's denial in an exclusive interview with E! News. "She was adamant she wouldn't do any jail time."

  • "Lori is finally realizing just how serious this is," the insider adds.

Apparently, Lori is upset with herself for not taking the initial plea deal as things could be much worse for her -- and we don't blame her.

"She is seeing the light that she will do jail time and is freaking out."

  • There's really not much to say.

Never did we dream of seeing Aunt Becky caught up in some crazy scandal like this.

... but if ya reportedly dish out $500,000 in bribes -- and funnel the money through a "charity" and business to not get caught -- yeah, jail time might be inevitable.
