She's showing her the ropes. According to reports, Queen Elizabeth has been helping to prepare her granddaughter-in-law Kate Middleton for her eventual role as queen when Prince William becomes king. The monarch has been taking the duchess "under her wing," and giving her more duties to prepare her for her future.

  • The queen has been giving Kate "new responsibilities" in recent years.

Royal expert Rebecca Long dished to Us Weekly, "Kate's been taking on new responsibilities little by little over the last few years, so it won't be a shock when the time comes. William and Kate are the favorite royals to take the crown in many generations, so the people of the U.K. are very excited about it."

Another source revealed, "She's really taken Kate under her wing. The two of them will often spend hours discussing royal life and the future of the monarchy."

Over the years she's taken on more and more responsibility, with various patronages revolving mostly on children's health and of course heading up the Heads Together campaign with Prince William, Prince Harry, and now Meghan Markle.

A source commented to Us on Kate's journey, "It's taken a long time for Kate to get to where she is today, but she's ready."

  • Kate and Queen Elizabeth actually just stepped out for their first solo appearance together last month.

Although they've made countless joint appearances over the past eight years, these two didn't venture out together solo until just a few weeks ago. In March, they made an appearance at a high-tech university in central London, King's College's Strand campus, which is housed in a set of five buildings known as Bush House that housed the BBC.

It definitely seems the Queen is taking the opportunity to spend more one-on-one time with Kate and share her wisdom about being part of the monarchy.

  • One thing the Duchess of Cambridge doesn't need pointers in -- looking the part.

Kate already looks poised, composed, elegant, and beautiful every time we see her. She's also never afraid to chat with the public, get down on the ground with children, and even joke about her husband.

She's going to be just fine.
