Prince Harry Is Taking Paternity Leave & Not Everyone Supports It

If Meghan Markle is taking maternity leave, why shouldn't Prince Harry get paternity leave? According to a new report, following the birth of Baby Sussex, Prince Harry will be taking a two-week leave of absence from work. The reason, of course, is to spend time his new baby, and presumably, to help the Duchess of Sussex in any way he can. Naturally, though, not everyone is a fan of the duke's modern decision.

  • Harry's reported choice isn't sitting well with many because he doesn't hold a traditional job.

It's been reported that a friend of Prince Harry's said, "He doesn't need to take paternity leave because he doesn't work in the way most people do, but he thinks it's a very modern dad thing to do."

  • Ouch, dude!

  • Royal fans and insiders are evidently perplexed at the prince needing two weeks off because he hasn't had a traditional job in four years.

The last time Harry "worked" was when he was in the Army. Currently, he's on the payroll, so to speak, of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles. His royal duties, technically speaking, are voluntary.

  • It goes without saying that people on Twitter had big feelings.

Some think this is all the doing of Meghan.

    Because everything's her fault, right?

  • Others felt the criticism wasn't fair, but were concerned about Harry getting paid for his time off.

  • Some full-on defended the prince's decision -- and his work ethic, as well.

  • People can think what they want (and they certainly will!), but paternity leave is incredibly helpful to mom and dad -- and it's a great way to bond with baby.

Also, it's two weeks, people. It's not like the man is taking a year-long sabbatical.

Since Harry and Meghan tied the knot, they've had their share of critics, so it's certainly no surprise that Harry is catching heat for this. Hopefully, he's tuning out the noise, and going with what he believes to be best for his family.
