Well, this is innovative. On Tuesday night, Kate Middleton attended the 2019 Portrait Gala at the National Portrait Gallery in London -- and as you may have guessed, the future queen went full-on glam. As she often does, Kate recycled a dress she wore to the 2017 BAFTAs, but this time around, she had alterations made, making it look like a completely different gown. That Kate. Always thinking.

  • In 2017, the Duchess of Cambridge made heads turn at the BAFTAs in an off-the-shoulder black floral Alexander McQueen tiered gown.

To complete the look -- and showcase her décolletage -- Kate wore her hair back with some seriously blingy earrings.

Oh yeah, and Wills looked pretty good, too.

  • This time around, Kate had cap sleeves added to the dress, giving it a totally different, slightly more formal, vibe. How smart!

Instead of rocking an updo, the duchess wore her hair down in her signature bouncy blowout. Both versions of the dress are stunning, but if we had to choose, we'd probably go with the original design.

Instead of constantly buying new clothes, Kate is known for rewearing much-beloved (very expensive) outfits. Obviously, having sleeves added to the dress was more practical than buying something new. Our guess behind the alteration is that Kate needed something formal for the event but also wanted to her look to be a little more conservative.

  • It's amazing how one tiny alteration to the dress -- and a different hairstyle -- completely changed the look.

Look how much more fancy Kate looked here. If the pattern weren't so distinct we probably wouldn't even know it's the same dress. Well done, Kate!

  • Earlier in the day, Kate was even more casual -- for a duchess -- in a pair of black wide-leg trousers and a purple Gucci shirt to visit Henry Fawcett Children’s Center.

There, the duchess joined parents and their children for Together Time, which provides a space for moms and dads to spend time with their babies and toddlers by enjoying activities such as singing, playing, and games. Kate obviously enjoyed hanging out with all of the adorable little ones.

Silk blouse, off-the-shoulder dress, cap sleeve gown -- Kate really can pull anything off. And we're seriously impressed with how the duchess breathed new life into something she had previously worn. Talk about clever.
