People Are Freaking Out Because Prince William & Kate Middleton Broke Up for a Short Time
Their lives seem straight out of a fairytale now, but if you can believe it, there actually was a time when Prince William and Kate Middleton just weren't that into each other. As everyone knows, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge met at St. Andrews University in Scotland back when they were babies -- and they hit it off right away. The pair dated throughout most of their college careers, but after graduating, they hit a major rough patch and called it quits. The reason? The holidays.
After William and Kate graduated college, they were involved in a long-distance relationship.
Kate was living in London, whereas Wills was in the army in Dorset. Like any postcollege couple, they were trying to make things work when they encountered the dreaded holiday logistics conundrum that almost all long-distance couples have to deal with.
According to Popsugar, Kate invited Will to spend New Year's Eve with her family back in 2006.
Initially, the now father of three accepted and it looked like it was going to be a good time for all.
But then William abruptly canceled.
Perhaps he got a talking to from Queen Elizabeth, but evidently it suddenly dawned on William that it's strict royal tradition to spend the holidays at Sandringham with the rest of the royal family.
And because Kate wasn't "officially" part of the family yet, she wasn't allowed to join.
In retrospect, this may seem a little awkward, given the fact that Meghan Markle joined in 2017.
She wasn't married to Prince Harry at the time and she had barely been with him a year.
Just saying.
