Meghan Markle's Father Speaks Out After Latest Baby Sussex Snub
Pop the champagne! On Monday, the royal family announced that Meghan Markle gave birth to a baby boy. Finally! From all accounts, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are doing well and all members of both Harry and Meghan's families are overjoyed with the incredible news. Unfortunately, though, not all members of Meghan's family are a part of the special occasion. Yes, we're talking about Thomas Markle.
Both the royal family account and Harry and Meghan's personal (official) Instagram account shared the good news with fans.
Although Harry and Meghan simply shared that they welcomed a son, the royal family gave us a little insight as to what's going on at Frogmore Cottage right now.
Here's what the office of Royal Communications shared:
Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex was safely delivered of a son at 0526hrs this morning. The baby weighs 7lbs 3oz. The Duke of Sussex was present for the birth. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Lady Jane Fellowes, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Earl Spencer have been informed and are delighted with the news.
The Duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland, who is overjoyed by the arrival of her first grandchild, is with Their Royal Highnesses at Frogmore Cottage. Her Royal Highness and the baby are both doing well.
Sounds dreamy. But ... what about Meghan's dad, Thomas Markle?
Noticeably absent from the royal family's update is Meghan's father, and as sad as it is to say, we're going to say it anyway: Is anyone surprised?
Ever since the royal wedding, Thomas Markle has been wildly disrespectful and duplicitous to both his daughter and Prince Harry. Throughout his numerous interviews, Thomas has shared everything from how he's "happy" that he's tormenting the royal family to saying he thinks his daughter is "terrified" in her new role.
And in one of his biggest breaches of trust, he actually had the audacity to share a deeply personal letter Meghan wrote him after the royal wedding.
“If you love me, as you tell the press you do, please stop. Please allow us to live our lives in peace. Please stop lying, please stop creating so much pain, please stop exploiting my relationship with my husband,” the duchess wrote in the letter Thomas shared with Mail on Sunday. “I realize you are so far down this rabbit hole that you feel (or may feel) there’s no way out, but if you take a moment to pause I think you’ll see that being able to live with a clear conscience is more valuable than any payment in the world.”
Sharing such an intimate letter with the world speaks volumes about Thomas's motivations -- and, unfortunately for him, it's completely at the expense of his relationship with his daughter.
So again: Is anyone surprised he's not part of this momentous occasion?
Although Meghan's mother originally expressed her excitement over Baby Sussex via the palace, Thomas talked about Meghan's pregnancy to the press.
“I was sitting in line waiting to cross the border when I heard the baby announcement on the car radio,” he said.“I thought, ‘My baby is having a baby.’”
Not long after the semi-sweet sentiment, though, he told media outlets that Meghan and Harry had “frozen” him out.
“I have made dozens of attempts to reach my daughter via text and letters, but she and Harry have put up a wall of silence,” he told the Mail on Sunday.
Thomas also congratulated his daughter to -- who else -- a newspaper. Speaking to the Sun, Thomas said:
I’m delighted to hear that mother and child are doing well. I am proud that my new grandson is born into the British royal family and I am sure that he will grow up to serve the crown and the people of Britain with grace, dignity, and honor. GOD bless the child and I wish him health and happiness, and my congratulations to my lovely daughter Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry, and GOD save the queen.
Well, alright.
Time will tell if Meghan ever lets her father meet her child (because he'll probably tell the world), but we're assuming that right now, it's a thought the duchess can't even begin to entertain.
After everything Thomas has done to Meghan, it seems almost impossible for her to be able to ever trust him.
And not trusting him to keep her privacy is one thing. But when you involve her and Harry's son -- well, that's quite another.
