Kylie Jenner Accused of Using Cultural Appropriation to Make Her Fortune

Kylie Jenner

The Kardashian family just can't seem to stay away from the controversy, and this time, new mom Kylie Jenner is under fire for her Forbes magazine cover. The Jenner sister is on track to be the youngest "self-made" billionaire, and one activist has a problem with the way in which the makeup mogul made her great fortune.

  • The activist, Brittany Packnett, took to Twitter and had some strong words for Kylie.

She went on to add, "And notice-now that she’s made her fortune? Those lip fillers came out. The fake tan disappeared. Just like Miley Cyrus before her, she’ll exploit black culture and black people for as long as its profitable, and then return to the comfort of whiteness. Why? Because it pays.”

  • Now, there's no denying that Kylie's $900 million company Kylie Cosmetics was centered around her enhanced lips, so some may argue that Packnett has a point.

Kylie's Forbes article made it sound like she built her empire from the ground up, but in reality, she had a lot of help ... and even more advantages. The lip kits formed all thanks to Kylie's full-lip look, which never would have happened if she couldn't afford to get the fillers. She made her fortune off the back of another fortune, but that doesn't mean she didn't work hard.

  • Packnett even went as far as to blame Kris Jenner for the way the Kardashian sisters exploit American consumerism.

Kris has been quite the momager over the years, and she has undoubtedly given her girls an enormous amount of success.

  • And Kylie isn't the first of her sisters to be accused of appropriating African American culture. In fact, the Kardashians get accused of this a lot

Kylie's half-sister Kim has come under fire several times for styling her hair in braids, and let's not forget when she was accused of using blackface during her KKW Beauty photoshoot. While Kim tried to pass it off as her being "really tan," we weren't completely convinced.

  • But despite all of the controversy surrounding her success, those around Kylie weren't shy about expressing how happy they are for her.

Kylie's boyfriend and baby daddy, Travis Scott tweeted, "CANT BE MORE PROUD."

And at the end of the day, Kylie's success is still super impressive for someone at such a young age. Also, she has been looking more like the old Kylie nowadays, so who knows, maybe she learned her lesson.
