She's a cool mom. She's a fun mom. But she's also a strict mom. According to a new report, Kate Middleton lays down the law when it comes to her kids -- particularly Prince George and Princess Charlotte. After the Royal Variety Performance on Monday, singer Petula Clark revealed to reporters that the Duchess of Cambridge denied her two eldest children a fun night out for a very responsible reason.

Nice try, George and Charlotte, but it's going to take a lot more than a cute face to get one over on your ol' mom.

According to Clark, the Duchess of Cambridge shot down George and Charlotte's pleas to attend the Royal Variety Performance.

The reason? It was a school night!

Evidently, while she was chatting with Clark, Kate Middleton revealed that George and Charlotte were excited at the prospect of a night of "singing and dancing" with their mum and dad. However, when the royal kiddos made their formal request, Kate simply told them "not on a school night."

All this being said, don't go feeling TOO bad for Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

While the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were meeting with Clark, who performed with the cast of Mary Poppins at the Royal Variety Performance, Prince William revealed he "loves Mary Poppins."

After the duke's admission, Clark told the royal couple that they should "bring the kids" to a show -- to which Kate said: "They would love it."

And apparently, it isn't just watching singing and dancing that appeals to George and Charlotte -- they love performing, too!-placeholder

Another Mary Poppins actress, Nuala Peberly, told Hello!: "Kate said that her children love performing at home, particularly Charlotte. She told us lucky we were to be on stage in the West End and asked how we managed to do it with our schoolwork. I can't tell you how exciting it was to meet them."

And when speaking to 6-year-old acrobat Aurelia George, the duchess revealed that George and Charlotte like to do gymnastics and have grown particularly fond of cartwheels and handstands. Who knew?!

George and Charlotte may not have been able to catch the Royal Variety Performance this year, but we have a sneaking suspicion it'll somehow be made up to them.-placeholder

Whether they catch a performance of Mary Poppins another time, or, you know, enjoy living in their castle and traveling the world, it'll all even out in the end.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
