Fans of Kids, IncorporatedParty of Five, I Know What You Did Last Summer, etc. -- or, OK, let's just say any folks who came of age in the '90s! -- feel like they grew up with Jennifer Love Hewitt. The beloved actress has been out of the spotlight for a while now, doing her thing as a mom of two. So when Jennifer Love Hewitt made her red carpet return for the first time in four years, it was kind of a big deal -- and a bit "overwhelming" for the star, who can't stop apologizing for how much of a "hot mess" she looked.

  • Jennifer was front and center at the Fox Upfront to promote her role in Ryan Murphy's upcoming series, 9-1-1.

This role marks Jennifer's first TV role since her time on Criminal Minds back in 2015. She has kept herself quite busy with daughter Autumn, 4, and son Atticus, 2.

  • Although she reportedly felt confident on the red carpet, Jennifer was upset upon seeing the pics and took to Instagram Stories to vent.

"It has been a really intense couple of days. Like, so great, so blessed -- but intense," Hewitt said in an Instagram Stories video. "We go to the Upfront yesterday and nobody tells me the day is going to be like 12 hours long and the humidity is going to be almost 100 percent in New York City. So, I just have to apologize. Wearing a black suit? Not a good idea. Not wearing enough hairspray and teasing in my hair? Also a bad idea."

  • And she apologized for looking so "wrecked."

"I just have to apologize for how wrecked I look in all the pictures that have come out," Hewitt added in her Instagram Stories video. She continued:

"I was literally melting. By the time I got to the red carpet, I was honestly melting. My hair was flat, my makeup was running off my face, and I looked like I had completely forgotten I was an actress in this business who is supposed to look [perfect] when you step on the red carpet.

"That is not what I'm going to look like on the show. I'm going to have makeup on my face. I'm not going to be sweating. I'm not going to be overwhelmed by being in front of a red carpet and crews again. Honestly, I apologize. I should've really gotten it together!"

  • The 39-year-old also shared that one of the reasons she didn't feel super pulled together was that she had been up "all night" with her LOs.

"It was our first time traveling with them," the celeb mom of toddlers explained. "Traveling with toddlers … wow. I had no idea. I mean, I waited this long because I knew that it was going to be hard. First of all, let me say: My kids were ballers. Amazing! They did a great job."

Jennifer also revealed that she suffers from anxiety, and is afraid to fly -- thus relying on her husband Brian Hallisay's help. "My husband is a saint," she said. "He really held it all together."

  • Poor JLH! Fans chimed in on social media, supporting the veteran actress.

  • So many people left warm words of encouragement for Hewitt, telling her she's "beautiful" and doesn't need "to apologize to anyone."

  • Thankfully, Jennifer seems to be more centered since her return to the red carpet.

Jennifer recently took to Instagram to share a makeup-free selfie, "No make up. Wet hair. Don’t care," Hewitt writes in her post. "Feeling grateful to be home. To be back to my workouts and to be back in my kitchen. Can't wait to make a yummy and healthy meal tonight. #gratitudeisthebestattitude #momlife #laundry #drycleaners #groceries #lovetoclean."

  • Love. It.

Hopefully, Jennifer received some of these supportive remarks in her heart, because there was absolutely nothing to apologize for! She's a hardworking mom of two who's wading back into the (often punishing) spotlight. And for that, all she has to do is receive a round of applause!
