Prince Charles has been a loving and devoted grandfather to Prince George and Princess Charlotte, so it's no surprise to learn that he was delighted by the news that Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed a new son to the world on Monday, April 23.

  • The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge introduced us to their third child this week, just hours after his birth.

The little guy was born at 11:01 a.m. local time, and William and Kate showed him off from the steps of the Lindo Wing of St. Mary's Hospital in London almost exactly seven hours later. It's the same place where Charles and Prince Diana showed off Prince William and Prince Harry for the first time after their arrivals.

  • Prince Charles issued a statement Tuesday, about becoming a grandfather for the third time.

We love when Charles shows us his sense of humor, and he did not disappoint this time. The statement on behalf of himself and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, read, "We are both so pleased at the news. It is a great joy to have another grandchild, the only trouble is I don't know how I am going to keep up with them."

  • Charles has really embraced his role as grandpa to William and Kate's kids, and we have no doubt he'll be able to keep up with number three too.

He's said that he "comes alive" when the grandkids visit, and that he loves to putter in the garden with them. He's even been known to take tea with them in the garden as well, and rumor is that he renovated an old treehouse of William and Harry's for Prince George (and now Charlotte and the new baby boy, of course).

  • William and Kate's new baby is certainly a joyous addition to the whole family.

Shortly after Kate gave birth, an official announcement from Buckingham Palace read, "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."

No doubt that Charles is particularly thrilled with the birth of his newest grandson, and will find plenty of excuses to spoil him rotten. It's what grandparents are for, after all.
