Things are getting pretty "Toxic" between a certain pop star and her ex. In case you haven't heard, Kevin Federline wants more child support from Britney Spears -- in addition to the $20,000 a month he gets for their sons Sean, 12, and Jayden, 11 -- in light of her successful Las Vegas residency. Kevin's actions sparked a huge debate about the pop princess's stardom and whether or not her surge in net worth justifies his getting a bigger check.

  • Kevin Federline reportedly wants Britney to double her $20,000 monthly child support payment and is ready to go to court if necessary.

Kevin Federline, whose "invest well" comments sparked controversy, is reportedly seeking $40,000 in monthly child support payments from the celeb mom and feels entitled to it. "Kevin seems to believe it's fair and much lower than what a judge would order based on her income," an insider told Us Weekly

The once famous single dad, who has four other children from two different women, recently rejected Britney's child support offer, which could have this debacle heading to court sooner than later. "Jamie [Britney's father] and Britney Spears sent a response to Kevin's request for an increase to his child support payments, to his lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan," a source revealed to Us Weekly about Britney and Kevin's money dispute. "Kevin has flatly rejected it .... Meeting with Jamie Spears, along with his lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, Kevin laid out the reasons why he was requesting the increase for child support payments. Kevin is tremendously disappointed that the offer was rejected, but is prepared to proceed."

  • Brit's ex feels justified in his request, as he hasn't seen an increase in his child support payments in 10 years.

A 2008 court agreement reveals Britney Spears agreed to pay $20,000 a month to Kevin Federline. Federline, who had sole custody of the children at the time -- after Britney Spears's shocking meltdown in 2007 -- scored an additional $5,000 a month from their previous arrangement.

  • Given the pop star's $174 million increase in net worth since their 2008 arrangement, is Britney Spears on the hook? Let's look at the receipts.

  • For starters, her coinage didn't move into the triple digits until recently.

Britney Spears's estimated net worth 10 years ago was $41 million. Today, Britney's made $215 million, which is a pretty big jump. Britney took home hundreds of millions thanks to her four-year Las Vegas residency that ended last December. Hot daaayum.

  • But that doesn't mean Brit wasn't bringing in checks.

Brit inked a $15 million dollar deal to be a judge on The X Factor. Granted, she quit after one season, but she was still able to rake in some serious dough.

  • At one point, Forbes named Britney the "highest-paid woman in music."

The then 31-year-old secured the title in 2012 after earning $58 million in a single year, thanks to endorsements and the success of her seventh studio album, Femme Fatale, that took the number one spot on Billboard 200.

  • She just didn't have access to all of her money, thanks to her conservatorship and blowing through millions.

Jamie Spears, Britney's dad, has been conservator of her money since 2007. (He earns $130,000 a year for his services.) In 2012, outlets reported Britney "blew" through $7 million of the $14 million of her conservatorship on the craziest things -- like $3,400 in Christmas lights ('tis the season to be gaudy), and damn near millions on fast food.

  • There were also whispers Britney was going "broke" at one point, with Kevin Federline being one of the reasons why.

If you think Tori Spelling's "broke" rumors are something, you probably forgot reports Britney Spears was overspending years after her meltdown with then controversial manager Sam Lutfi seemingly standing by. "Britney was hemorrhaging money at the time when Sam Lutfi was in her life and acting as her manager," an insider alleged to Radar Online. "Her estimated net worth in 2007-2008 was $32 million dollars. However, she was spending about a whopping $700k a month."

The source also told Radar that in addition to her wasteful spending, Britney dropped a couple million in her custody dispute with Kevin Federline. "She probably paid around $2 million dollars in attorneys' fees to her family law attorneys in just a year and a half, and remember, she ended up losing custody of the boys to Kevin," the insider reveals.

  • The pop star also had business deals that went sour, costing Britney $10 million to settle.

A beauty company sued Britney for allegedly cutting them out of their fragrance deal. The mom of two ended up paying $10 million to end the lawsuit.

  • Yikes.

  • And we can't forget about the $11 million she said "Bye, Bye, Bye" to in 2016 due to her excessive spending.

Britney seemed to enjoy the $16 million she earned in 2015, as outlets report she spent $10.95 million of it in 2016 -- basically $11 million dollars -- on things like clothes and massages.

    Talk about a good time!

  • Things, however, appear to be going very well for Britney Spears, which could spell trouble for Kevin Federline.

Britney is happy with her beau Sam Asghari (who might just earn a future spot on our cute guys celeb list), is a loving mom to her sons, inked a new Vegas deal that means more millions, and is headed on tour this summer. Even Brit's dad wants to end her conservatorship, which is a sign things are good for the pop star.

A source close to Britney told Us Weekly "there will be hell to pay" if Kevin continues coming after her money -- revealing to the outlet Britney pays for her sons' expenses as is. "She absolutely will not allow Kevin to take advantage of her," the unnamed insider noted. "If he even dares to withhold her kids from her after asking for a child support increase, there will be hell to pay."

    Time will tell what happens.
