While the heirs to the British throne are cut and dried -- Prince Charles will be King after Queen Elizabeth's reign is over, followed by Prince William, and eventually Prince George -- what their spouses will be called when their time comes to rule is not. Initially, it was believed that Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, would never be referred to as a "queen," it now seems that she will one day -- which means, eventually, Kate Middleton will be called Queen, as well.

  • Earlier on this week, Prince Charles removed information from his personal website about what Camilla would be referred to as once he's king.

After Camilla and Charles wed in 2005, it was announced that the duchess would be called Her Royal Highness The Princess Consort instead of a queen once Charles became king. The reasoning behind this is mostly chalked up to the fact that Camilla is Charles's second wife, and frankly speaking, she's never been all that popular with the British public

An FAQ section on Charles's website once featured information on her proposed title -- but now it's completely disappeared. This of course has fueled rumors that Camilla will be referred to as Queen Camilla once her husband is king.

  • After the change picked up speed on the Internets, a palace spokesperson told the 'Telegraph,' in so many words, to "relax."

"Our Frequently Asked Questions are updated regularly," the spokesperson said. "This is one question that Clarence House has not been asked by the public for some time, which is why it no longer features."

  • Despite the fact that 'Queen Camilla' may not sit well with everyone, there's a silver lining: The title means Kate Middleton will eventually become 'Queen Catherine.'

  • But! The title of 'queen' will come with a twist for both women, as technically, they won't be the monarch, their husbands will be.

Camilla would technically become "queen consort" once Prince Charles takes over, as will Kate Middleton once William takes over. Ruling royal women, such as Queen Elizabeth, are referred to as "queen regnant," while their husbands traditionally do not change their titles. (See: Prince Philip.)

  • Regardless of what the women will be called once their husbands become king, it will be fascinating to watch how the monarchy changes over time.

But we must admit: Queen Catherine has a very nice ring to it.
