On Monday, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West officially became parents of three when their new baby girl was born via surrogate. Although surrogacy is a common solution for women who are unable to carry a child, there are still many aspects of it that people have questions about -- and that includes the topic of breastfeeding.

  • Kim recently posted a video on her Snapchat where she mentioned how much she loved a specific breastfeeding pillow that she has.

  • Kim's post raised some questions. Many fans assumed that she wouldn't be able to breastfeed her baby since she did not give birth to her.

  • However, we decided to ask an expert -- and it turns out that Kim can totally breastfeed her daughter if she wants to.

According to Dr. Diana Ramos, co-chair of the National Preconception Health and Health Care Initiative:

"Breastfeeding a baby born to a surrogate is totally possible and a wonderful way to bond with your baby. This is not a new concept if you think about 'wet nurses' that we had years ago."

    Dr. Ramos continues to CafeMom:

"Under the guidance of her health-care provider, a mom would take hormones, a few months before the birth of the baby to get milk production started. Once breastfeeding is started, her body will continue to produce her breast milk."

  • So, if Kim has decided to breastfeed, she would have been preparing for it for a while now -- and that would explain her beloved breastfeeding pillow.

Of course, it is none of our business whether Kim has decided to breastfeed or not, but if anyone is ever considering surrogacy then this is good information to be aware of.
