When Prince Harry popped the question to divorced American Meghan Markle, clearly he was breaking a few royal traditions. But now it looks like the Suits actress may be breaking a few royal protocols of her own. A source recently told E! that Meghan wants her mother to walk her down the aisle instead of her father.

  • It's no secret that Meghan is super close with her yoga teacher/social worker mom, Doria Ragland.

The actress is often photographed with Doria, who raised her as a single mother, and Harry had nothing but great things to say about his future mother-in-law in the couple's engagement video. "Her mother is amaaaazing," he gushed.

  • Despite the fact that Meghan's parents released a joint statement after the engagement announcement, her father, Thomas Markle, has often been described as a "recluse."

"We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry. Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents," Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland said at the time. "We wish them a lifetime of happiness and are very excited for their future together."

Shortly after the engagement, a reporter with the Daily Mirror caught up with Thomas while he was buying beer and cigarettes in Mexico and asked him if he was going to give his daughter away. The 73-year-old apparently "beamed" and said, "Yes. I'd love to. I'm very pleased. I'm delighted."

  • Since her relationship with Harry was made public, Meghan's family has been a controversial topic.

Her half sister Samantha Grant has gone to the press about Meghan on numerous occasions and is writing a memoir called The Diary of Princess Pushy's Sister. And when Harry referred to the royal family as "the family Meghan never had," the actress's half brother Thomas Markle Jr. said that the comments were "upsetting" and "a little shocking."

"My father will be extremely hurt, actually. He dedicated the majority of all his time and everything to her," Thomas told the Daily Mail. "He made sure she had what she needed to be successful and get to where she's at today."

  • Understandably, Meghan has stayed mum on the subject of her family, but she's always made it obvious that she and her mother are very close.

If she wants Doria to walk her down the aisle instead of her father, hey, it's her big day.

  • The big question is: How will Queen Elizabeth feel about her decision?

    Time will tell!
