Man, you think you know someone. According to the Express, Kate Middleton took a solo trip after attending Marlborough College and before attending St. Andrews University in 2000. The duchess, who hadn't yet met Prince William at that point, went on a gap year on her own, and from the sound of things, it was pretty life-changing.

  • After leaving school, the duchess embarked on the journey of a lifetime.

“Leaving Marlborough College in July 2000, The Duchess of Cambridge undertook a gap year in which she studied at the British Institute in Florence, undertook a Raleigh International program in Chile, and crewed on Round the World Challenge boats in the Solent,” reports the website DukeandDuchessofCambridge.org.

    Sounds pretty incredible!

  • Apparently, Kate's trip was physically demanding at times, but no matter for her. She was always up to the task.

Expedition leader Malcolm Sutherland told the Evening Standard, "She was by herself, like most people. She was definitely one of the fitter and stronger members of her group, which assisted her for sure. At times it was physically demanding. She was pretty easy going."

  • When Kate was in Chile, she spent 10 weeks working for a charity.

Ironically, Prince William also visited Chile during his gap year.

  • Not long after her gap year was through, Kate headed off to St. Andrews, where she wound up meeting the love of her life.

But without a doubt, she's a much better, much more worldly person, for her solo travels.

That Kate, man. Always something new with her.
