But of course the 56-year-old actress took the opportunity to use her diagnosis as a platform to raise awareness:

She heartbreakingly captioned the post "Just when you thought..."

Louis-Dreyfus learned of her diagnosis on September 17, just one day after her Emmy win for best actress in a comedy series.

HBO released the following statement to The Hollywood Reporter on the news:

"Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time. We have every confidence she will get through this with her usual tenacity and undaunted spirit, and look forward to her return to health and to HBO for the final season of Veep."

HBO also assured that this "had no bearing in the decision to renew Veep for a final season" and that they will adjust their production schedule according to the actress's needs.

Fans and celebrities alike are sending an outpouring of love and well wishes during this difficult time.

Our hearts and thoughts here at CafeMom also go out to this comedic genius during this time.
