Kate Middleton Was Devastated to Miss Prince George's First Day of School

On Thursday, Prince William accompanied Prince George to his first day of school at Thomas's Battersea. Noticeably absent from the adorable video of the little prince walking into school was George's mom. Unfortunately, the duchess was too sick with hyperemesis gravidarum to do the school run on George's first day, and now it's (understandably) being reported that Kate was "desperately sad" to miss out on her son's big day

A source close to the royal couple told Us Weekly that Kate watched George's first day of school as the rest of us did -- via the news at home. "She was desperately sad that she couldn't make it but she is on firm bed rest now until she feels better," the insider revealed. Poor Kate. No parent wants to miss such a big milestone in her child's life.

The source also went on to say that, like many parents, William and Kate have mixed feelings about George heading off to school. "The first day of a child's school is always a bittersweet day for a mother," the insider said. "Both Kate and William are extremely proud of George and how well behaved he was as he arrived, but it's also a little frightening to see him grow up this fast!"

Being that he's her firstborn, and that the duchess is hormonal and not feeling her best right now, Thursday couldn't have been an easy day for her. Hopefully, though, she'll be on the up and up soon and will be able to enjoy many school runs with George this year. Unfortunately, though, it seems like Kate has a little while longer to go before she's back to her old self again.

"Kate is currently on bed rest and being seen by a doctor daily," an insider said. "Her mother, Carole, has been staying at Apartment 1A for the past five days. Carole is Kate's rock in tough situations like this. Mother always knows best!"

Indeed. Plenty of rest and fluids (if you can keep them down), Kate! We're all pulling for you. And don't worry, there will be plenty other first days of school.
