During Robert Pattinson's recent chat with Howard Stern on his SiriusXM show, the actor spilled that he was a rebellious teen who stole and re-sold porn. But apparently, a different kind of "bad behavior" almost got Pattinson fired from Twilight. The 31-year-old actor shared that his first attempt to portray Edward Cullen was considered too serious by producers.

"If you're going into a relationship with someone, the way to make it really intense is if you can barely talk to each other, you can barely touch each other, it's incredibly serious all the time,” Pattinson said. "That's what teenage relationships are. But everyone kind of wanted it to be, like, 'No, they should just be, like, happy and having fun. That's what people want.'"

Because Pattinson didn't see eye-to-eye with the producers on this point, he found himself on thin ice, risking the gig. "[My agents] flew up and were like, 'You have to do the opposite of what you're doing now or you're going to get fired today,'" he explained. Ouch!

He even told Stern that at one point, the producers gave him a copy of Stephenie Meyer's book and highlighted each time his character smiled, in order to prove that Cullen really wasn't brooding 24/7. But Pattinson says he countered that move by highlighting all the times the vampire frowned.

Ultimately, the two parties were able to reach a compromise -- likely because Pattinson decided he'd do what it took (smiling! all the smiling!) to keep the job. While he seems kinda aggravated that it's a role that will follow him around for eternity, it's probably wise that he played along. After all, his portrayal of the teen vampire did help launch his career.
