If you thought Reese Witherspoon only played an outdoor adventurer on the big screen, think again. Life imitated art (sorta) when the actress and her 13-year-old son Deacon Phillippe set out on their own wilderness explorations this week.

Reese, who received a Best Actress Oscar nomination for 2014's Wild, became one with nature again as she and Deacon set out on a mother-son trip. The adorable pair hiked and kayaked their way through some seriously gorgeous parts of Canada, documenting the trip on Instagram.

This marks the second hiking trip for Reese and Deacon, at least as far as social media is concerned. The duo also posted photos of a similar getaway in British Columbia last year.

Reese and Deacon make roughing it look so much fun that we're almost considering a week in nature for our own summer vacation. Almost.

We love that a busy A-list mom carves time out of her schedule to make sure she gets quality one-on-one time with her kiddos. And judging by the pics, Deacon appreciates it as well. We're also dying to know if Reese is applying any of what she learned during Wild production to her personal outdoor adventures. Who says Hollywood can't teach you anything?

Reese can next be seen in the upcoming feature film Home Again, opposite Michael Sheen and Candice Bergen.
