It's become so easy in our society to judge people based on appearances that we don't even realize we're doing it! The Internet lost its sh*t amid speculation that Halle Berry debuted a baby bump during a recent red carpet appearance. And though the rumors are false, the assumption that Berry -- a mom of two (Halle has 8-year-old daughter Nahla and 3-year-old son Maceo from previous relationships) -- is expecting her third child based on a dress she wore proves there are still strides to make any time someone doesn't look 100 percent conventionally "perfect."

Halle's babygate controversy began when the 50-year-old Academy Award winner attended the Butterfly Ball in Los Angeles on June 4. Turning heads in a silver Yeon ensemble, Berry also sparked major pregnancy rumors.

While some who looked at these pics probably didn't think they were a big deal, the photo that seemingly made the Internet stop and take notice was this pic of Halle embracing her belly -- aka, doing "the pose" that many moms-to-be often use to show off their pregnancy news.

Needless to say, Halle touching her stomach created a firestorm that had fans and conspiracy theorists taking to social media faster than you can say 140 characters or less.

To recap, Halle Berry is NOT expecting her third child, a rep for the actress told Page Six. "It is completely untrue. She is not pregnant."

... And, just in case you don't believe the rep, Halle recently took to Instagram to set the record straight

Seeing as Halle shared a tummy-revealing pic on Facebook on May 27, it would've been safer to assume Ms. Berry wasn't expecting in her most recent pics.

Halle is certainly not the first celebrity to undergo such scrutiny, as actress Jennifer Garner has had to defend her body, once telling Ellen during an interview, "I am not pregnant, but I have had three kids and there is a bump. And let's just all settle in and get used to it. It's not going anywhere."

Speaking of Jennifers, how many times has Jennifer Aniston been pregnant because people thought they saw a baby bump? She and hubby Justin Theroux would've had more kids than the Brady Bunch if every rumor about Jen's "bump" were true!

Just last year, Aniston wrote an honest open letter for HuffPo in which she addressed the nonstop pregnancy rumors. "For the record, I am not pregnant. What I am is fed up," Aniston wrote. "We use celebrity 'news' to perpetuate this dehumanizing view of females, focused solely on one's physical appearance, which tabloids turn into a sporting event of speculation. Is she pregnant? Is she eating too much? Has she let herself go? Is her marriage on the rocks because the camera detects some physical 'imperfection'?"

Whether you jumped for joy at the thought of a female celeb becoming a mom, or want to throw some shade her way for looking a little less than "perfect," Halle's babygate rumors are a reminder of how unacceptable some think the sight of a belly -- or what some might consider a "food baby" -- is. So unacceptable that it's constantly pointed out and dissected in a beaming spotlight of judgment.

In many ways, we're all guilty of this and, thankfully, have room to grow, which will allow us to keep calm and carry on with our own lives.
