Think what you want of her, but it couldn't have been easy. In a new interview with You magazine, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, opened up about her affair with Prince Charles. She's rarely coined as anyone's favorite royal, but it's hard not to feel bad for someone who felt like a prisoner in her own home for a time.

In the candid interview, Camilla talked about her highly publicized affair with Charles, which took place while she was still married to Andrew Parker Bowles and Charles was famously still married to Princess Diana.

"I couldn't really go anywhere. But the children came and went as normal -- they just got on with it, and so did great friends," the duchess said. "It was horrid. It was a deeply unpleasant time and I wouldn't want to put my worst enemy through it. I couldn't have survived it without my family."

Camilla and Charles's relationship has often been a controversial topic, and, not surprisingly, many people blame her for the demise of Charles's marriage to Diana. But Princess Diana admitted to having affairs behind Charles's back, as well. However, Lady Di always maintained that it was the closeness between Charles and Camilla bothered her most.

Charles and Camilla married in 2005 and have been together ever since. It reportedly took Camilla a while to be welcomed into the royal family, but now that she is, she tries to make sure she takes everything in stride. "You also have to laugh at yourself because if you can't, you may as well give up," she said. "I sometimes think to myself, 'Who is this woman? It can't possibly be me.' And that's really how you survive."

It really is you, Camilla. And you're not just surviving, you're thriving, girl.
