If you know one thing about the Middletons, it's probably that they're all about family. We've often been regaled with stories of the Middleton children's idyllic childhoods in Bucklebury (where Pippa is getting married). And despite the fact that she lives in a castle with butlers and servants, Kate Middleton opted to go home to her parents' after the birth of George. So with all this said, it's not surprising that Carole and Michael Middleton see their grandkids a lot -- more than the royal family does, in fact. But what you might not have known is that Prince Charles is okay with not seeing George and Charlotte as much as the Middletons do.

A royal insider recently told People that while Prince Charles "comes alive" when he sees his grandchildren, he doesn't harbor any ill feelings about the fact that they see the Middleton side of the family more often. "He is pragmatic about it," a source close the the royal family said. "He is accepting that a daughter gravitates toward her own family."

Another source went on to say, "Charles and Camilla absolutely adore being grandparents and are enthralled with Charlotte and George. Charles is a warm and caring guy, but he comes even more alive around little George. He loves spending time with him." Charles even refurbished William and Harry's old tree house for his grandchildren. (Perhaps to try to entice them to hang out more?)

Kate has always been incredibly close to her family, so it doesn't come as too much of a surprise that she still spends so much time with them. But it has to hurt Charles just a little sometimes. (Last year, Kate skipped the traditional royal Christmas celebrations at Sandringham to be with her parents and siblings in Buckebury.) But hey, at least he's being diplomatic about it.

As time goes on and royal obligations increase, George and Charlotte will likely spend more time with their father's side of the family. Though hopefully they won't come to associate the Middletons with playing outside in their underwear and the Wales fam with stuffy clothing and boring functions. Because let's be honest, to a kid, that's how it will seem.
