Princess Kate Middleton has used her stage for so much good, and today she brought up an important issue that we all need to talk about -- the health and well-being of mothers. Kate talked about postpartum depression and how even she experiences the challenges of motherhood.

Kate was at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists for the launch of the Out of the Blue film series, which is all about continuing the conversation of maternal mental health, and raising awareness. It's a topic not talked about often enough -- we need women to feel they are not alone and there is help for those who need it. It's about knowing that motherhood has challenges and that there are others going through and feeling the same things -- and that there is support out there.

At the event, Kate spoke out about how motherhood has been a "rewarding and wonderful experience" but it has also been a "huge challenge." Even for her. She said this noting that she knows she has a lot of support, and that is not the case for most mothers. The point here is that we all can face the same challenges, and we need to be supportive of each other, and make sure we have the help we need. Kate spoke words that shows how she really gets it.

"Nothing can really prepare you for you the sheer overwhelming experience of what it means to become a mother," she said. "It is full of complex emotions of joy, exhaustion, love, and worry, all mixed together. Your fundamental identity changes overnight. You go from thinking of yourself as primarily an individual, to suddenly being a mother, first and foremost."

Thank you, Kate, for this heartfelt speech. As moms, we all need to hear those words. We need to remind ourselves of this daily. All those emotions are all mixed together on our best days and our worst days. As Kate says, "parenting is tough" -- it's most certainly is. We should never feel ashamed if we feel overwhelmed in motherhood -- we should seek help if we need it. Moms, you are not alone.
