Joseph Duggar's New Courtship Takes a Controversial Turn

Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell

Earlier this month, the exciting news broke that Joseph Duggar is courting Kendra Caldwell, and they make a pretty adorable couple. Only one problem? Some news that's come out about her parents is a little disturbing. Apparently Joseph's potential in-laws don't believe gay people exist -- no, really.

According to a news site local to the family's Springdale, Arkansas, home, neighbors were recently offended when people from the church where Kendra's father, Paul, is a pastor received some pretty out-there pamphlets. Reportedly, they said "there are no such things as homosexuals" in response to the question of whether or not God loves gay people.

And when Pastor Caldwell issued a statement (via text message) to the site, he still didn't believe that what his church was doing was wrong. He told KNWA:

Our church loves the LGBT community, hence the reason we have decided since spring 2014 to reach out to them. This is just another avenue we are trying. To them, it is simply a reminder that God loves them, and if I were to truly love them then I must tell them the truth.

Nice try, Pastor Caldwell, but that's not going to work.

Since the Duggar family has often used the Bible to explain they think homosexuality is a sin, it's not too surprising that someone their son is courting would hold those same beliefs. But to distribute pamphlets insinuating that homosexuality doesn't exist? That's a lot, even for someone associated with the Duggars.

Neither Joseph nor his parents have yet to respond to the news, and we don't expect that they will. We just hope this courtship is the right decision for their family. This is definitely a red flag!
