Each of us will contend with a life battle that can manifest itself in a number of ways -- including addiction. Today, we celebrate Ben Affleck's news that he completed treatment for alcohol addiction, as it will help the father of three with his sobriety and, as Ben hopes, make him a better version of himself and a better dad for his children.

The 44-year-old Academy Award winner took to social media on March 14 to reveal his current status and his hopes for the future.

"I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I've dealt with in the past and will continue to confront," Affleck wrote on Facebook. "I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be."

Ben's eye-opening revelation, which came on the heels of rumors that he and Jennifer Garner are putting their divorce on hold, also speaks to his loved ones -- including Jen -- who have been with him every step of the way. He hopes his journey will be a reminder to his children and others to seek help if they need it.

"I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step," Affleck noted. He continued:

I'm lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I've done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.

Ben Affleck is no stranger to rehab, as People notes the actor checked himself into Promises, an alcohol rehab center in Malibu, back in 2001. That truly makes me hope he's able to remain healthy and stay sober. I commend Ben for making such a personal battle so public, as it has the potential to help others who might be struggling to make changes in their lives.

I can only imagine what Ben and others struggling with an addiction go through, but I feel their testimony and the changes they make to their lives have the power to impact generations.

Thank you, Ben, for sharing a glimpse of your journey with us.
