After losing his dad in December, this singer could be facing even more devastating days ahead. Alan Thicke's son, Robin, is being investigated amid claims of spanking his 6-year-old son, Julian, whom he shares with ex-wife Paula Patton. The Los Angeles County Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is reportedly looking into allegations that surfaced claiming the "Blurred Lines" performer may have abused the child.

Reportedly, Julian told officials at his school that his dad, 39, spanked him on more than one occasion. As mandatory reporters, the school's officials reportedly made the DCFS aware of the incident, causing the department (which has not commented on the situation) to open an investigation.

In light of these claims, Patton, to whom Thicke was married for close to a decade, requested that her ex's joint custody, which includes overnight visits every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, be limited. A Los Angeles judge reportedly denied the 41-year-old's request

In court documents obtained by various outlets, Thicke reportedly states, "It is my understanding that Paula is accusing me of 'excessive spanking.' I am told that Julian reported to the school that I spanked him and that the school made a report to the Department of Children and Family Services."

Thicke, though, goes on to deny any wrongdoing, stating: "On a very rare occasion and only as a last resort, I will use light spanking, but it is consistent with the law -- open hand on the butt. This is the type of discipline to which Paula and I agreed during our marriage."

How parents discipline their children is a controversial topic. While some use time-outs, others believe in taking firmer measures. Spanking is often deemed a gray area, where some see it as a method that works when all else fails and others consider it flat-out abuse.

Typically, moms and dads come to an agreement both are comfortable with so each has peace of mind knowing they're on the same page. But the issue can become more challenging when couples split, custody is shared, and hard feelings between parents deepen.

Reportedly, Thicke has asserted that his ex may be angry at him for excluding her and her family from his late father's funeral. In a legal document, Thicke stated:

Paula did not have a positive relationship with my father and often made negative comments to me about my father. As such, she was not welcome at his funeral. It is my belief that Paula only wanted to attend because it would have resulted in additional public exposure for her.

Our hearts break for this child who is clearly caught in the middle of a very ugly situation and recently lost his grandfather.
Thicke has stated that after Julian alerted school officials, Patton wouldn't let Julian FaceTime with him privately and added that he was finally able to speak to his child after Paula called him on January 9.
According to documents obtained by People, the celebrity mom is concerned about Julian's behavior, as she declared that the child has "become very tense" and slips into "what appears to be a trance." Additionally, she noted that he's developed a "slight stutter."
This poor kid. In his declaration, Thicke, who maintains that he "never exceeded age-appropriate discipline," stated that when he spoke with his son "for a couple of minutes" he told him that he loved him and that everything "will be OK, he had done nothing wrong" and that Thicke was excited to see him later in the week.
We hope that this situation is cleared up as quickly as possible for this child's safety, well-being, and privacy. If it is a matter of unresolved anger between these former spouses, they should seek the help they need to co-parent effectively, responsibly, and with mutual respect.
