We forget with an embarrassing frequency that Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are together (and, like, have kids), but Ryan's speech at the Golden Globes ended up being a really touching reminder that the two are still happy and in love. And as if our hearts didn't hurt from that enough, Eva had to go ahead and respond to Ryan's speech in the most low-key, clandestine way. It wasn't even about Ryan at all, at least not on the surface. It was about Janelle Monae.
Do you have questions? We thought you might.
First, to recap: Ryan's speech was an ode to the mountain of people who helped him get where he is and it had a special shout-out to Eva -- "While I was singing and dancing and playing piano..." he said, "my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother with his battle with cancer."
Eva responded later on Instagram, but you have to look closely to see it:
There it is! Reeeally tiny in the caption -- "Obviously this wasn't my favorite moment of the night." No, it's not a lot. But from Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling? This is practically a love poem.
And any love poem that features Janelle Monae so prominently is always going to be fine by us. When we write love poems they're always covered by a photo of Janelle Monae, too. We get it, Eva. Janelle rocks.
Eva and Ryan have been together since 2011, and the daughters Ryan mentioned in his speech are 2-year-old Esmeralda and 8-month-old Amada. It's quite a fam, and we're glad we got this glimpse inside. It's not much, but with these guys, we'll take what we can get.
