The Sparkles, Scoop Backs & Statements That Stole Our Hearts at the 2017 Golden Globes

The Golden Globes are simultaneously the best and worst award show night of the year, but one thing is for sure: They're always interesting. Part of the reason why (okay, fine, most of the reason why) is because the best celebs are always invited, and that makes for a stunning red carpet every single year.

2017, of course, was no different -- all of our favorite celebrities came out this year, and they all looked amazing. And we're not just saying that. They ALL looked incredible, and picking the 20 must-see looks was no easy feat. But for you guys, we do it.

  • Gina Rodriguez

    1

Gina Rodriguez's Naeem Khan gown literally dripped with sparkles, and it stole the show, hands down. Plus, it feels like it's been a while (dare we say too long?) since we've seen a good halter on the red carpet, so we were doubly taken with Gina's look.

  • Reese Witherspoon

    2

Yellow was undoubtedly the color of the night, and the effort was led by Reese Witherspoon and her stunning Atelier Versace gown (and that Tiffany & Co. necklace, OMG). Reese was yellow from head to toe (pretty much literally -- did you see her shoes?) and we looooved it.

  • Issa Rae

    3

Creator and star of HBO's hit new show Insecure, Issa Rae, has been one of the most talked-about celebs this season, and her sharp, white Christian Siriano dress will keep the tradition alive another day. She might not have won a Golden Globe (yet), but she won our hearts -- and we all know that's more important.

  • Lily Collins

    4

World, meet Lily Collins, literal princess and Prettiest Human Alive. Her Zuhair Murad dress was intricately beaded and suuuuper low-backed, and she said picking this one was a tough choice, but we think she made the right call. Pink is always the right call.

  • Millie Bobby Brown

    5

When Millie Bobby Brown stepped out on the red carpet, we forgot for, like, one full second that she's only 12. Her Jenny Packham dress managed to be youthful and refined at the same time, and her slick hair (it's so long now!) added to the overall vibe perfectly. Stranger Things didn't pick up a Globe this year, but we're sure its time will come.

  • Janelle Monae

    6

We can promise you right now that there will never be an awards show Janelle Monae attends that she doesn't make the best dressed list for. Does that make sense? Basically, Janelle ALWAYS looks great, and her bubbly, high-low custom Armani Prive Golden Globes dress was no exception. Janelle was in two of the most talked about movies this year -- Hidden Figures and Moonlight -- and Moonlight ended up taking home the Best Picture Globe.

  • Emma Stone

    7

With her flowy, star-studded (get it?) Valentino couture gown, Emma Stone looked like she might lift off and float into space at any moment. You know, sort of like she did in La La Land -- which, by the way, broke a record for the most wins by a movie at the Globes last night.

  • Ruth Negga

    8

Ruth Negga swept up a Golden Globe nom for her starring role in Loving, and though she lost to Isabelle Huppert (Elle), we're still glad we got to see her in Louis Vuitton on the red carpet. Can metallic be our new favorite color?

  • Lola Kirke

    9

Lola Kirke, star of Mozart in the Jungle, was the feminist we all needed at the Golden Globes last night. First, she didn't shave her armpits in a beautiful "eff you" to Hollywood norms. Second, she worry a tiny custom pin at the top of her Andrew Gn dress that read "F*ck Paul Ryan" -- she told Elle she wore it because Ryan's been talking about trying to defund Planned Parenthood recently, and that's no bueno.

  • Kerry Washington

    10

Kerry Washington went for a fierce look with her dark lip and gold Dolce & Gabbana dress, and we dig it. Like, a lot. Is anyone else getting knight in shining armor vibes? No? Just us? Whatever. Kerry was nominated for her starring role in HBO's TV film Confirmation this year.

  • Winona Ryder

    11

We're getting serious evil queen vibes from Winona Ryder's Victor & Rolf Soir dress (though that kind of vibe isn't that unusual for Winona, TBH) and we don't hate it. Her whole look was timeless and gorgeous, and we're glad she got the best actress nom for Stranger Things

  • Gal Gadot

    12

We love a red carpet baby bump almost as much as we love a good, slicked-back hairdo, and Gal Gadot gave us both at the Golden Globes this year, bless her. Her gown was by Mugler, and because we know you're wondering: That necklace (drool) is Tiffany & Co.

  • Chrissy Teigen

    13

The Marchesa dress Chrissy Teigen chose was a little bit of a risk, and not everyone could pull it off. But this is Chrissy Teigen we're talking about. She looked great -- and we're prepared to lust over that Jimmy Choo clutch for the rest of our lives.

  • Tracee Ellis Ross

    14

Why, yes, those are two full hands full of diamond rings on Tracee Ellis Ross. That's also a gorgeous, glittery Zuhair Murad dress and a brand-spankin'-new Golden Globe (not pictured) for her role in Black-ish. It was a major win for Tracee and Black-ish, so yay! Congratulations!

  • Drew Barrymore

    15

There was something almost bird-like about Drew Barrymore's Monique Lhuillier gown (maybe it was the feather sleeves?) and we're diggin' it. Also, should we talk about how flawless her hair was? So flawless. Ugh!

  • Zazie Beetz

    16

Asking us to pick our favorite Atlanta star is like asking us to pick our favorite child. But just between us, Zazie Beetz is def up there. And God, if we had to pick a favorite dress, Zazie's Delphine Manivet gown from the Globes this year is deeffffff on the list.

  • Blake Lively

    17

Everyone knows that we, as women, have a thing for pockets. And that was before we saw the pockets on Blake Lively's custom Atelier Versace gown. Our "thing" for pockets just turned into a full-blown obsession, and we officially want sparkly pockets on everything we own.

  • Octavia Spencer

    18

It's been a long time since we saw a tuxedo on the red carpet we didn't love, so we'd be lying if we said we were surprised at how much we drooled over Octavia Spencer's custom Laura Basci tux the instant we saw it. But did you SEE those lapels? Can you blame us? (Octavia was nommed for best supporting actress for Hidden Figures, but lost to Viola Davis's performance in Fences. Just FYI.)

  • Julia Louis-Dreyfus

    19

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has plenty of awards for her starring role in Veep, so we're not so mad that Tracee Ellis Roth took home the Best Actress Globe this year. But we're still glad Julia got a nom -- partly because she deserves it, but also because we wanted to see what she'd wear to the red carpet this year. And this Georges Chakra dress? It didn't disappoint.

  • Zoe Saldana

    20

There are almost no words for how much we loved Zoe Saldana's Gucci Premiere gown. But we reeeally want to gush about it -- those layers! That pink! The BOW. We're obsessed. Thank you for this gift, Zoe.
