The Brangelina Divorce Is Getting Even Uglier -- & Of Course, the Kids Are Involved

The point at which Brad Pitt was accused of child abuse was the point at which we figured nothing about this Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie divorce could get worse. (He was cleared, thank God.) But it kinda seems to just keep on going, doesn't it? This time, the news comes straight from court documents that CNN and People were able to get their hands on: Brad Pitt is saying Angelina Jolie is hurting their kids by jeopardizing their privacy. Whether or not that's true is a question we can't answer -- we just know we hate seeing the kids dragged into this news. Again.

Since neither publication actually published the court documents, we don't know the details. But both CNN and People are reporting the same story: Brad Pitt wrote that Angelina is "determined to ignore even agreed upon standards relating to the children's best interest."

He said that the fact that she put the names of the therapists working with their children (refresher: Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8) in court filings endangered their privacy, and that she has "no self-regulating mechanism" when it comes to keeping the family's personal information from the public eye.

In a way, this story fits past events -- just two weeks ago, Brad put in a request for an emergency meeting to seal all the documents related to his divorce. Angelina's camp opposed the request and called it a "thinly veiled attempt to shield himself, rather than the minor children, from public view." Angelina's lawyer reportedly said that she did not oppose to having them sealed in theory, but did oppose to not being consulted before the hearing. So, ultimately, the court sided with her and the documents stayed open.

Again, we're stuck here not knowing who to believe. We just know that we wish they'd leave the kids out of it. For once.

A few months ago, Brad was being investigated for child abuse. It was cut short when neither the FBI nor the Department of Children and Family Services found evidence of wrongdoing, but poor Maddox was caught in the middle of that. Now there's this.

Kids are always a factor in divorces, whether their parents are celebrities or not. But they're not always constantly in the crossfire like the Jolie-Pitt kids have been since this began, and they shouldn't be. We get that Brad and Angelina are just looking out for their safety (physical and otherwise), but their current mental health has to be considered, too. And at this point, they must be feeling the pressure of this whole situation as much as their parents are.

Currently, Brad and Angelina have an informal custody agreement that lets Angelina have physical custody of their children and allows Brad supervised visits. Going forward, Brad will be fighting for joint custody in court, while Angelina will try to keep him limited to visitation.

As always, we hope this will be resolved soon and in a way that keeps the kids as safe and shielded as possible.
