Buckingham Palace steward Cyril Dickman's grandson found the personal artifacts after his 2012 death, and decided to make the contents public.

Dickman was a favorite employee among the royal family for more than 50 years, after beginning his tenure ont hr roof during the Blitz, watching out for fires. He was eventually promoted to head steward at Buckingham Palace, where he developed a friendship with Princess Diana.

The intimate nature of her letters to him reveal how close he was to the royal family, and also what William and Harry were like as young children. One letter from 1984 was written days after Prince Harry made his appearance into the world, and shows what a doting big brother Will was from the start.

Dear Cyril, it was so very kind of you to have sent us such a lovely card, on the arrival of our small son -- we both were greatly touched by your thoughtfulness and enormously appreciated it. William adores his little brother and spends the entire time swamping Harry with an endless supply of hugs and kisses, hardly letting the parents near!

The reaction to one tiny person's birth has totally overwhelmed us and I can hardly breathe for the mass of flowers that are arriving here!

Nearly a decade later, another letter from 1992 described the boys at ages 10 and 8. Diana wrote, "The boys are well and enjoying boarding school a lot, although Harry is constantly in trouble!"
