It's Official: The Brad Pitt Child Abuse Investigation's Over & We Can All Move On

Splash News

Has it been years since Brad Pitt and Angelina split up? Decades? Or really only two months? Regardless, the mess seems to finally be wrapping up: As of November 22, the FBI officially closed an investigation into the allegations of child abuse against Brad Pitt, and with that, this scandal falls safely into the realm of standard celebrity divorces and custody battles we're familiar with. Obviously it's still not the best news for the kids, but it's better than a child abuse situation, so ... thank God.

Laura Eimiller, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles bureau of the FBI, gave a statement about the investigation to CNN:

In response to allegations made following a flight within the special aircraft jurisdiction of the United States which landed in Los Angeles carrying Mr. Brad Pitt and his children, the FBI has conducted a review of the circumstances and will not pursue further investigation. No charges have been filed in this matter.

The rumors about the incident the FBI is referring to said that Brad Pitt got "physically and verbally abusive" with his oldest son, 15-year-old Maddox, while on their private aircraft. Some reports said Maddox was standing up for Angelina, whom they say was fighting with Brad before their son stepped in. But all that information came from unidentified sources, so nothing was ever clear.

Still, the FBI looked into it. And if they decided nothing's worth looking into, we're inclined to believe them. And be thankful about it. We just want Maddox to be safe, you know?

(For the record, there were reports around November 10 that the Department of Children and Family Services also decided not to bring charges against Pitt, but the DCFS never officially commented.)

From here, the Jolie-Pitt divorce will continue as scheduled -- Angelina is filing for full custody of their six kids, while Brad is fighting for joint custody. As of right now, it seems like the kids are living with Angelina and having "therapeutic visits" with their father (with the exception of Maddox, whom Brad has reportedly seen only once).

Of course, we just want what's best for the kids -- hopefully the courts are able to wade through the publicity and figure it all out soon.
