The American Music Awards are always one of our favorite red carpets to watch. Maybe because it's November and it's time to get excited about awards season, or maybe because the AMAs always get some of our favorite stars out to the red carpet for us to goggle at. This year's AMAs (the 44th annual, but who's counting) didn't let us down -- there were tons of celebs and they all looked great. Naturally.

Here are the some of the celebs who really wowed us at the AMAs this year. Of course, everyone looked amazing, but these are the looks that got everyone talking.

  • Gigi Hadid

    1

It would take a lot for Gigi Hadid not to look amazing, but still: Her lacy, wedding-day chic Roberto Cavalli dress was particularly stunning, even for her. Since she was cohosting with Jay Pharoah, she changed several times throughout the show, but this look was definitely one of our favorites.

  • Nina Dobrev

    2

We know Nina Dobrev will look incredible in any dress she puts on, and clearly, Nina Dobrev knows that, too. So it's actually kind of exciting she tried something different this time around -- she took a risk with her shorts and blazer combo from Zuhair Murad, and it totally, totally paid off.

  • Teyana Taylor

    3

Teyana Taylor really can do no wrong this year, and her gorgeous Steven Khalil gown is clearly no exception. Everything from her bold eyebrows to her delicate pearl-colored necklace to the juuuuust sheer enough skirt pull this look together, and it got everyone talking.

  • Hailee Steinfeld

    4

Okay, first take a sec to remember that Hailee Steinfeld is still only 19. Great. Now we can ogle at her incredible Elie Saab dress (skirt? Romper? It's not totally clear) with the right amount of awe. With wing-like sleeves and a totally distinctive greenish color, Hailee's dress (or whatever) solidified the major impact she made in the music world this year.

  • Chrissy Teigen

    5

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend walked the AMA red carpet together this year (sans baby Luna, sadly). Chrissy presented an award and John performed "Love Me Now," but all anyone was talking about was Chrissy's Yousef Akbar gown. Obviously. Not only does it look totally stunning, but it was held together by safety pins, which we have to think was a statement of solidarity for the people affected by the 2016 election. Unfortunately, it wasn't totally secure and once or twice Chrissy's dress showed as much as you'd expect it to with slits that high, but we think that's beside the point.

  • Taraji P. Henson

    6

We're so glad Taraji P. Henson was a presenter this year because we really, really would have missed her kinda casual (but secretly not) look if she weren't there. Designed by Céline, her white dress resembled your boyfriend's extra large button-up, but paired with a diamond necklace, a gorgeous black bra, and that deep purple lip, it was put together and perfect.

  • Ciara

    7

We loooove a good baby bump red carpet look, and Ciara's so did not disappoint. Her skintight, high-low Stephane Rolland gown wasn't meant to hide anything, and we love that she wasn't shying away from showing off her bump. Or her legs. Or those shooooes. We're all dropped jaws over here -- can ya blame us?

  • Janelle Monae

    8

We can't even remember a time when we weren't obsessed with everything Janelle Monae was wearing (and doing, ugh). If there is a more perfect human, show us her. And if there is a more perfect jacket, show us it. Under the jacket, she's hiding even more of her traditional black-and-white stripes, this time in the form of a short Marc Jacobs dress. And that clutch, BTW, is from Anya Hindmarch. Sooo ... we'll take one of everything, we guess?

  • Gigi Gorgeous

    9

Gigi Gorgeous, livin' up to her name. Per usual. Gigi wore an August Atlelier Getty bralette with a white sequined skirt and sleeves to the AMAs this year, and all that plus her long white hair and diamond necklace made her look like the icy queen we know and love.

  • Selena Gomez

    10

Selena Gomez has been very open about what she's gone through this year to care for her mental and physical health, so to see her on the red carpet again looking so strong and healthy was incredible. (And that's not even getting to her acceptance speech, which seemed like it brought half the room to tears.) Her look was all simplicity -- her stunning Prada dress didn't need any big jewelry or statement pieces to look refined and put together.

  • Keke Palmer

    11

We've never not been here for the '90s revival, especially when Keke Palmer does it. We're diggin' everything about her Natalia Fedner dress and choker combo -- we're getting serious 2014-era Rihanna vibes, and we love it.

  • Ariana Grande

    12

There were quite a few really solid pantsuit-esque looks on the red carpet this year, but Ariana Grande's was probably our fave. (Shout out to Lady Gaga and Heidi Klum, who were a close second and third.) Something about Ariana's vintage crop top and Alexander McQueen tuxedo pants looked just undone enough to really work for us, and her hair (which seems longer than usual, right?) pulled the whole thing together. Ariana also won Artist of the Year, so lots of congratulations are in order here.

  • Behati Prinsloo

    13

This red carpet was Behati Prinsloo's first public appearance since giving birth to her daughter Dusty Rose at the end of September, but if we didn't have all the Instagram proof, we almost wouldn't believe it that she had a kid eight weeks ago. She looks fantastic in her short black dress, and she totally nailed the messy, Bardot-esque hair and intense eyes.

  • Karlie Kloss

    14

We're not sure what it would take for Karlie Kloss to not look like a supermodel for once, but this Atelier Versace dress definitely isn't it. The short on one side, long on the other thing is a little strange, but it works for us -- maybe it's her fierce look or the simple black and white, but Karlie really rocks this (and clearly, she knows it).

  • Olivia Munn

    15

We really don't get as many florals on the red carpet as we wish we did (especially in November), so we're actually pretty thankful Olivia Munn showed up in the dress she did. Designed by Reem Acra, Olivia's dress breaks all sorts of rules, which, now that we think about it, is probably why we like it so much.

  • Jeannie Mai

    16

While not everyone was feeling Jeannie Mai's floor-length Chelsea Von Mach dress, we actually kind of love it. White, black, and red is a classic color combo, and the mosaic-inspired pattern feels cool and edgy to us. So, thumbs up. Also thumbs ups to the fact that Jeannie brought her mom to the red carpet -- that's the kind of mother-daughter relationship we love seeing.
