Heidi Klum's Outlook on Aging Will Be Your New Personal Mantra

Not that Heidi Klum wasn't always on our radar (because she obviously was), but lately she's really been getting our attention. It probably has something to do with not just how fabulous she is, but also the fact that fall is definitely her season (did ya see that Halloween costume?). She also recently talked to People about her new lingerie line and, like many others stars, Klum discussed aging -- and it was by far one of the most simple yet authentic responses to the subject that I've heard.

It was the more flattering equivalent of YOLO (yes, remember that awful saying for "You Only Live Once"?). The 43-year-old model and mother of four told the outlet that she'd likely "...be the girl on the beach with no top on" -- even 20 years from now. Klum went on to add:

Maybe my stomach and my boobs are not going to be the same way they are now. But it's just who I am. I am more of a free person. I'm more nudist that way. I'm fearless. I don't think that will change. I'm gonna be that 60-year-old woman laying on the beach with just my bottoms on.

While she's always been a bit of an open book when it comes to aging, I particularly enjoy that she acknowledges the fact that she while she thinks she'll still be fearless, she really has no idea how she'll come to feel about her body in the years to come. But she's not worrying about it just yet. Klum said:

I feel comfortable in my skin ... But who knows? Maybe that will change in 20 years. But I feel like you have to just be open and have fun with it. Especially now -- anything goes.

I find comfort in the fact that she's simply allowing herself to live in the moment, really. Yes, we all want to believe that we're going to be OK with aging, but the reality is that you just don't know how you'll feel until it really starts to happen.

OMG .....just found my first grey

I somehow find it more inspiring to hear Heidi talk like this -- about being her best self and just living life to the fullest -- than to hear someone just carry on about how you only get better-looking with age. In some backwards way that only makes me feel worse, not better.

And that might say a whole lot more about me than anything, but I want the gritty details and the truth most women face, because for a lot of us, aging is a scary thing. I think more often than not, we're not totally OK with the process. And that's OK. That's probably why we're dyeing our hair when we see our first grays or getting pissy when someone asks us our age -- it's not always as internal as just being scared sh*tless.

Sometimes I just want to hear something raw and honest that doesn't sugar-coat my fears, like, "hey, this sh*t sucks, but it happens," and in my mind Klum's that voice for me.

So while Klum is beyond confident in herself and her body right now, it's ironically that little bit of doubt that gives me hope. Sure, she says she thinks she'll always be confident no matter how her body ages, but she acknowledges that she really does not know how that will play out in years from now. Because none of us really knows how aging will make us feel -- and that gives hope for me and all of the other women facing the pressure that comes with change.

We may not like it, but we can learn to embrace it. We're sure Heidi will.
