We fully appreciate the fact that high heels help Kate Middleton look fantastic no matter the occasion. A little bit of extra lift elongates the duchess's silhouette so that she can pull off all of those elegant dresses and long coats. But because we are sloppy garbage people who live in sneakers and flats, we can't help but wince when we see Kate's feet stuffed into the sky-high heels she often sports. When it comes to Kate in high heels, we appreciate her effort, but we are so relieved we don't have to wear them all the time. And we get it, we get it -- this lady needs to look good on behalf of the royal family. But isn't there a pair of diamond encrusted flats she could borrow from the royal closet?

From the formal events where heels are a must to the times Kate wore stilettos on grass (and yes, there are multiple times when this has happened), just thinking about standing for hours in sky-high heels makes our arches hurt. But hey, those are the breaks when part of the royal family. And if anything, watching Kate go through her many royal engagements makes us no longer take for granted our freedom to wear flats whenever we want.  But the truth is, Kate completely pulls it off and looks like a total boss babe in every pair she rocks.

So, if you want to see the duchess's shoe superpower for yourself, feel free to click through these 21 pictures of Kate Middleton in heels that made our feet hurt.

  • WANT TO TRADE?

Kate looked like she was asking that little robot if it would like to trade shoes -- Kate's stylish nude pumps for those flat robo-slippers. If the robot shared our sentiments regarding footwear, the response would have been a flat-out "No thank you."

Kate wore these sky-high nude stilettos to celebrate World Mental Health Day. We have a feeling these shoes would not be welcome at a celebration of World Podiatric Health Day.

  • RUBY SLIPPERS

Kate wore these chunky Todd's heels with a cute leather trim during her tour of Canada.

  • FLAMES ON THE SIDES OF OUR FEET

The color of these bright red suede heels resembles the color of the blisters we imagine we'd develop after wearing these shoes all day.

  • OPPOSITE OF CHILD-FRIENDLY

These shoes hardly seem like the best choice for walking down the stairs from an airplane while carrying one child and attempting to wrangle another, but Kate manages to do all of that in these chic nude pumps anyway.

  • PAINFULLY POSH

Kate's signature nude pumps are the perfect accessory for this playful blue-and-white polka-dot Altuzarra dress. We would have worn it with ballet flats, though, because we're basic slobs.

  • WELL-HEELED

We're big fans of Kate's effortlessly chic sheath dress, but her heels look less than comfortable. Personally, we prefer the girl in the purple dress's choice of sensible but sparkly footwear.

  • RISKY BUSINESS

The sight of those heels on cobblestone is too painful to bear. Tread carefully, Kate!

  • FIRM FOOTED

"Oh dear, it seems my stilettos have wedged themselves into the earth's core. I guess I'll be spending the rest of the event right here. Who wants a photograph?"

  • BURJ KHALIFA OF HEELS

These cute peep-toe pumps look exceptionally painful. Sometimes it seems like Kate is tempting fate by wearing the thinnest heels possible.

  • FORMAL TERRORS

Kate's black stilettos perfectly coordinate with the rest of her outfit, but we think heels an inch or two lower would have done the job just as well.

  • LAWN ORNAMENTS

Kate tempted fate once again by wearing stilettos in the grass at the second day of Royal Ascot. If it rained at all the night before, we wouldn't be surprised if those shoes turned into new lawn decorations.

  • WEAPONS OF CHOICE

The Queen looks exceptionally relieved to have the days of wearing extra-high heels behind her. "My dear, back in my day, those weren't heels. Those were utensils for cutting steaks."

  • BLOODY MURDER

Kate's crimson heels perfectly match the rest of her adorable red outfit, and they also match the rage we would feel after having to walk around in heels that high and skinny all day.

  • SLIMMING ACCESSORIES

We could think of a number of shoe styles that would complement an emerald green princess coat, but naturally, Kate chooses the least comfortable-looking of them all.

  • JUST TRY WALKING THE PLANK IN THOSE HEELS

Kate's color-coordinated, nautical-inspired outfit is incredibly chic, but you couldn't pay us to wear those stilettos anywhere near the high seas. We'll wear a pair of boat shoes on our seafaring adventures, thank you very much.

  • THEY MAKE A GOOD POINT

Kate's navy blue heels were fashion-forward, but the pointy toes and stiletto heels make us really glad we're wearing comfortable, if considerably less sexy, flats right now.

  • BLACK & BLUE

Kate dressed to the nines to visit the 1st Battalion Irish Guards at the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Aldershot, and that included a pair of extra-high heels. The extra height makes her legs look like they go on for miles, but we're not sure the bruises they'd leave on our less-than-royal feet would be worth it.

  • WALK ON THE WILD SIDE

Apparently Kate was presenting a young photographer with an award for winning a wildlife photography competition, but we'd like to imagine she was begging him to swap shoes. Her strappy heels looked gorgeous with that blue Jenny Packham dress, but they also looked incredibly painful.

  • COBBLESTONE CONFIDENCE

We could barely wear these stilettos out to dinner (where we could sit most the night), let alone on a cobblestone sidewalk ... to visit the National Football Museum, where Kate went with Prince William in Manchester. Her poor, poor feet.

  • SUFFER FOR FASHION

We wouldn't wear these shoes for all of the pretty Jenny Packham dresses in the world. There are plenty of reasons to envy Kate, but having to wear shoes that bend her feet into this shape is not one of them.
