It Sounds Like Demi Lovato Is Breaking Up With Music for Herself, Not Her Haters

Demi Lovato is that friend in our heads who lets us know it's OK to be confident, love our bodies, and not give an eff about speaking our minds. We absolutely adore her, so right now we're in our feelings as Demi Lovato says she's taking a break from music. And while rumors are circulating that Demi's exit has to do with Taylor Swift, we feel her departure is more about Demi and less about others. Because sometimes, you need just a break from it all, and that's perfectly OK, too.

Demi was celebrating her November Glamour cover hours before her unexpected news, and some believe her negative comments about TSwift's squad in the magazine was the catalyst to her wanting to leave the limelight.

Demi told Glamour:

To be honest, and this will probably get me in trouble, I don't see anybody in any sort of squad that has a normal body. It's kind of this false image of what people should look like. And what they should be like, and it's not real ... It's not realistic.

Needless to say, Demi's follow-up post heard around the Twitterverse made all of us stop and take pause.

And if that doesn't make your music player skip a beat, the 24-year-old is uncertain whether or not she'll make her return to the mic.

Can we talk?

Honestly, I don't think what Demi said (or hinted at) about Taylor's squad was that bad. She was just giving her two cents and went to bat -- as she always does -- for body types that are underrepresented in our society.

Seeing as Demi has received crazy flak for daring to voice her opinion, I don't really think a quote in a magazine -- that she seems to stand by -- rattled her enough to leave the music biz.

Maybe, just maybe, Demi is tired of all the BS that gets added to her statements to sell stories and just needs a minute. Or, maybe Demi needs a break after her recent split with her boyfriend of six years, Wilmer Valderama. Or, maybe she's pooped from her Future Now tour with buddy Nick Jonas that's now overseas.

Who the heck knows?!

If Demi needs a breather and thinks leaving the spotlight for a period of time is best, I'm all for it. Hopefully she won't be a stranger for years to come like Adele. (That girl is my kindred spirit.) But, if that's what it takes, that's what it takes.

Demi has been a source of inspiration and empowerment for so many people. I think there's strength in taking a step away to both regroup and reanalyze -- and we're going to see a more powerful Demi because of it.

Go ahead and do you, girl. We totally get it.
