21 Celebrities We Totally Forgot 'Killed It' in Horror Movies

Renee Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey in

Horror movies are a part of a movie genre we love to hate. Between feeling terrified one minute, and ready to punch our TV screens the next, it's pretty safe to say that scary flicks send us on one crazy ride. And you know what makes them even more wickedly awesome? Watching them again and realizing your fave celeb of today was in it all along!

From Academy Award winners to heartthrobs and our favorite TV stars, many celebrities starred in memorable horror movies -- as well as a few we wouldn't dare admit we watched.

Spoiler alert: If you're not a fan of movie sequels, you definitely missed many of these stars.

  • Leonardo DiCaprio

Heeyyy, Leo. In addition to all of Leonardo DiCaprio's Oscar-worthy performances, one film you might want to keep in your archives is Critters 3 -- his very first movie role. Granted it does feature cheesy creatures, but come on, you know you love it!

  • Jennifer Aniston

Don't mess with the Aniston. Jennifer might've made us laugh as Rachel Green on Friends, but as Tory Reding in Leprechaun, oh, she played no games. If ever you find yourself being terrorized by an Irish elf, don't be afraid to call her.

  • George Clooney

Poor, poor George. Anyone in the fictitious Crippen High School in the horror flick Return to Horror High became the victim of a complete lunatic -- including our beloved Clooney. While George's character, Oliver, did not fare well against a serial killer, at least Clooney lived to tell the tale in real life.

  • Kevin Bacon

It's hard to believe one of Kevin Bacon's big breaks was in the 1980s cult classic Friday the 13th. That's right, this Golden Globe winner was one of the camp counselors at Crystal Lake who had an unexpected run-in with Jason's mother. Word to the wise, kids: Don't do drugs; they'll kill ya one way or another.

  • Renee Zellweger & Matthew McConaughey

You haven't seen cheesy movie reboots until you watched Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation. Starring Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger, this 1994 horror flick was pretty silly and will make you laugh more than scream.

  • Gerard Butler

Hello, you handsome creature of the night. Even if you need to squint to see him, it's important to note that Gerard Butler did in fact play the famous dude from Transylvania in Dracula 2000. Admit it, you would still let him bite your neck.

  • Brad Pitt

High school can be killer. Just ask Brad Pitt, who starred in the late '80s slasher film Cutting Class. Even though this movie of murder, gore, and all those fun teen emotions didn't hit it out of the park, it's still fun to see ol' Brad in his former (ahem, pre-Angelina) years.

  • Patricia Arquette & Laurence Fishburne

    Image via New Line Cinema

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors offered a two-for-one deal in the celeb department with both Laurence Fishburne and Patricia Arquette. Set in a hospital with teens who possess "dream powers," Max (Fishburne), one of the orderlies at the hospital, didn't believe there's any attack on the kids until they start dying one by one. (Yup, that'll make you a believer.)

  • Drew Barrymore

Before Katniss Everdeen, little Charlie (Drew Barrymore), in the Stephen King film Firestarter, was our girl on fire. Best known for some pretty serious pyrokinetic abilities, Drew Barrymore might've been small in this movie, but was certainly a force to be reckoned with.

  • Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks has starred in A LOT of films, which kinda makes it fun to look back at his very first. In 1980, the future Academy Award winner played a psychology student in the horror movie He Knows You're Alone, about a demented killer who has a thing for brides-to-be.

  • Jim Carrey

If you're a vampiress who needs to drink the blood of a virgin three times before Halloween in order to keep your immortality, then clearly Jim Carrey is your guy! Once Bitten is a fun-loving '80s "horror" movie that stars the comedic icon as a horny teen who happens to catch the gaze of an ancient countess.

  • Paul Rudd

Are you sick and tired of scary movies that have three too many sequels? Even if your answer happens to be yes, we can only hope you saw the sixth installment of the classic Halloween series, Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. If you didn't, you missed out on seeing Paul Rudd!

  • Demi Moore

Eek, we HATE creepy crawly things! Who the heck knows why the scientist in the squeamish flick Parasites thought it was a good idea to create parasites, but he did. At least we got to see a young Demi Moore star in this horror film, which makes it all worth it in the end.

  • Hilary Swank

Even though Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the movie with Kristy Swanson, not the show with SMG) wasn't a horror movie per se, it did have creepy elements -- like vampires and Pee-Wee Herman. (You know, Paul Reubens?) And as much as we loved that uncredited cameo from Ben Affleck (he wasn't super famous back then), actress Hilary Swank did an amazing job of annoying us to hell and back.

  • Eva Mendes

    Image via Original Films

As crazy as it might sound, the 2000 film Urban Legends: Final Cut was one of Eva Mendes's first big acting gigs. Mendes starred as Vanessa Valdeon, a film student terrorized alongside her college classmates by masked psychopath.

  • Amy Adams

Who doesn't love a good spoof? Those who are fans of B-list movies will likely get a kick out of Psycho Beach Party. The 2000 film poked fun at slasher films, surfers, and clueless teens who always find themselves at the center of some mess. And as you can see, young Amy Adams (that's her on the bottom right) looks petrified.

  • Angela Bassett

    Image via New Line Cinema

Note to self: If you ever want to make it as an accomplished actor, you need to star in a horror movie sequel. (Got it.) Angela Bassett might be killing it in the American Horror Story series, but she learned how to kick ass across the galaxy in Critters 4. Don't play with her.

  • Julia Louis-Dreyfus

    Image via Empire Pictures

Before her days inside the White House in the HBO hit Veep, Julia Louis-Dreyus starred in the late '80s flick Troll. Based on an evil troll king who attacks tenants inside a San Francisco apartment, the film also has a character named -- wait for it -- Harry Potter Jr., who learns magic from the lady upstairs. Yeah, you cannot make this up.

  • Johnny Depp

How freaking cute was Johnny Depp in A Nightmare on Elm Street? This was his breakout role in the world of acting that made us fall in love with him over the decades in film. Of course, after this year's allegations against him, we'll just try to remember him this way. Too bad the character he played, Glen Lantz, fell asleep in this movie. (It doesn't end well.)
