Kate Upton Was Told to Lose Weight -- & the Reason She Didn't Is Everything

Even after everything, it's difficult to imagine people finding supermodels anything other than flawless. And yet ... Kate Upton revealed to Glamour that she was told to lose weight "all the time" when she first began her modeling career. And her attitude toward that BS advice just makes us admire her all the more.

Thankfully, in addition to legs for days, the 24-year-old also has ample confidence and common sense, which means she was able to chalk these weight loss suggestions up to ignorance.

"At first I tried to diet to become their image, but eventually I realized that it wasn't realistic -- that this is just the shape of my body," the model told Glamour magazine. "So I had to block them out. I think that the people who are the loudest about wanting to change you are the people with the least amount of vision and creativity."

Wow, we couldn't agree more. This holds true not just when it comes to your look but to other attributes, like your sense of humor -- or even your opinions -- as well.

Plus, the gorgeous Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue staple is known for her curves. A stick-thin Kate Upton would be like a BLT without bacon, a theme park without roller coasters, the White House without its striking columns. To reduce her to a waif would be to strip her of what makes her, specifically, so beautiful and unique.

"... When I started working, I was booked constantly, mostly for catalog work," she told the mag. "So when people were saying, 'Oh, she doesn't have the right look for a model,' I thought, 'Then why am I working every single day?'"

Love, love, love this! It must've taken a boatload of self-esteem not to be swayed by that kind of negativity at a young age. Fortunately, Kate is even stronger today -- especially when it comes to the haters on social media.

"In the beginning it was so hurtful," Upton, who is engaged to Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander, told Glamour on whether nasty online postings got to her. "But I have to say, the other day I was reading some negative comments, and I was thinking they were really funny. So I guess they don't anymore."

While we might look up to Kate for not allowing anyone to knock her fabulous figure, just who does the supermodel admire? Ashley Graham, of course. Kate says she finds the full-figured model inspiring.

It's awesome for young women to hear these supermodels/role models speak out about loving their bodies exactly as they are and not changing them for anyone. That's a message that never goes out of style.
