Amber Heard Gives All Her Divorce Money to Charity ... & a Giant FU to Her Haters

Back in May when Amber Heard first filed for divorce from Johnny Depp, the name-calling was out of control. Naturally, it was all directed toward Amber, and a good deal of it was about her being a gold digger. Her 15-month marriage was all a sham, it said, and she was filing on the grounds of domestic abuse only because it would get her more money than claiming irreconcilable differences would. But Amber just got her $7 million settlement and she immediately donated it all to charity, which is essentially a giant middle finger to everyone who doubted her intentions.

It also makes her a supremely good person, but we're sure people will find ways to question that, even now.

The full $7 million was split between two charities: the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), which will use the donation to, as she says, help other victims of domestic violence.

Amber released a statement via her publicist that explained that she's been a volunteer at the hospital for over 10 years and while there, she's seen how better funding can make a difference in children's lives. She also expressed her desire to see the money help women in situations similar to hers:

As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves. This is over and above any funds that I have given away in the past and will continue to give away in the future ... I know these organizations will put the funds to good use and look forward to continuing to support them in the future. Hopefully, this experience results in a positive change in the lives of people who need it the most.

Noble, right? There's no way you can donate $7 million and not do it genuinely, but there also has to be a tiiiiny part of her that's like, "I told you so, losers." She said from the beginning she wasn't in it for the money, and though their settlement outlined Amber's intentions to donate whatever she got from Johnny, everyone still had a hard time buying it. But then she did it, and it rocked.

We're glad Amber saw an opportunity to help other women like her and took it, and we're glad she stuck to her guns and came forward about Johnny. We're not sure if this can count as a happy ending (we mean, at the end of the day, we believe that Johnny did abuse her), but we guess it's as close as we're gonna get. We'll take it.
