20 Videos of Celebrities Dancing Like No One Is Watching

Even Bob Fosse said, "Don't dance for the audience — dance for yourself." After all, swiveling our hips, tapping our toes, waving our arms, and bopping our heads are just ways in which we use our bodies to communicate joy and emotion. Like the rest of us, when celebrities hear a song they like, they're bound to get down and boogie — whether at a concert, awards show, private party, or in their cars and homes. Some have been willing to risk looking foolish for the sake of some good ol' fashioned fun — dancing on talk shows and in clips shared via Instagram or YouTube. Others, meanwhile, have been caught off guard, secretly being recorded while letting loose on the dance floor.

Not everyone can be Channing Tatum, but even when displaying some awkward moves, these dancing celebrities seem to be having the greatest time — and that, of course, makes us smile. Check out these videos of celebrities dancing without a care in the world.

  • Zendaya

We all sing and dance in the relative privacy of our cars, but Zendaya has taken her passenger seat lip syncing and shimmying to new heights. The Shake It Up star's car videos, which she shares via Snapchat and Instagram, make us wish we enjoyed being in the passenger seat that much!

  • Tom Hanks

Even if there was rain in the forecast, Univision viewers got a ray of sunshine on June 21, 2011, when Tom Hanks joined weather girl Chiqui Delgado and danced as she ran through the prognosticated high and low temperatures across the nation. Between his sideways bunny hop and his awkward snake roll move, it's hard not to chuckle!

  • Amy Schumer & Jennifer Lawrence

A video posted by @amyschumer on

Budding BFFs Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer not only joined Billy Joel on stage during his August 2015 concert at Chicago's Wrigley Field, but they also tossed their shoes and climbed atop his piano barefoot, dancing without a care as he belted out "Uptown Girl."

  • Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift isn't one to remain seated during musical performances at awards shows, and her often bewildering moves have repeatedly been immortalized by audience cams — inevitably winding up as comical GIFs and memes. Here, the "Blank Space" singer can be seen boppin' to an Imagine Dragons and Kendrick Lamar performance at the 2014 Grammy Awards and awkwardly waving her arms. The girl is all limbs!

  • Matt Damon

If there's a third installment of Magic Mike, can we nominate Matt Damon to join the male stripper crew? The Jason Bourne star surprised the Ellen Show audience when he perfectly executed some of the moves in Silentó's "Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)" video. Just look at him steering that imaginary wheel!

  • Rita Ora

During a live chat with fans, Rita Ora attempted to replicate the dance immortalized in K-Pop star Psy's "Gangnam Style" video. From the skip-step to the horse-riding stance and the lasso arm movement, Ora nailed the goofy (and super fun!) choreography, proudly exclaiming, "I did it!" at the end of her mini performance.

  • Leonardo DiCaprio

Thank goodness that Rose DeWitt Bukater's fate in James Cameron's Titanic wasn't determined by Jack Dawson's dancing skills! Judging from this cell phone video, taken at the 2014 Coachella Music Festival, Leonardo DiCaprio dances to his own beat -- literally. Though he attempted to conceal his face, the Oscar winner's cover was blown pretty quickly. Those standing near him, however, were not so blown away by his moves. See? Some stars, they're just as rhythmically challenged as the rest of us!

  • Emma Stone & Andrew Garfield

During a BBC Radio 1 interview to promote 2012's The Amazing Spider-Man, costars (and then-lovebirds) Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield showed off their silliest dance moves to the Gypsy Kings' flamenco-flavored "Bamboleo." Stone moved her hands in circular motions as if playing castanets, then broke into a puzzling lasso-waving hop routine. Garfield, meanwhile, puffed his chest out to assume his most macho pose and strummed an imaginary Spanish guitar. Their willingness to be their true goofy selves proved beyond endearing.

  • Paul McCartney

When Electric Lights Orchestra's Jeff Lynn and Ed Sheeran performed "Evil Woman" at the 2015 Grammy Awards, Beatles legend Paul McCartney rose up and, standing in front of his seat, began shaking his hips ever so slightly and clapping his hands to the beat, mouthing the lyrics. When he realized an audience camera was pointed directly at him, he hurriedly resumed his seat, recoiling in embarrassment. Awww! We would've clapped and boogied with Paul!

  • Vanessa Hudgens

The young starlet solidified her Bohemian goddess status when she treated her YouTube followers to a video of herself dancing to the music of German folk duo Milky Chance. Wearing a flowing caftan and straw hat, Vanessa Hudgens sways blissfully to the reggae-tinged tune, exuding a carefree confidence.

  • Benedict Cumberbatch

Okay, so he's no Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire — and certainly no Michael Jackson — but Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch definitely mastered the werewolf expressions and clawing gestures in the "Thriller" video. And isn't that the best part?

  • Beyonce

Talk about getting in formation! During a visit to her mother-in-law's home in West Orange, New Jersey, Beyonce noticed the neighbors were throwing a block party so she worked her way into the crowd and did the electric slide right along with them! True to form, Queen B stole the show and turned the group into her own Beyhive.

  • Josh Hutcherson

No wonder Katniss chose Peeta in the end! Just look at The Hunger Games actor Josh Hutcherson getting down on the basketball court during half-time! Between his cross-step and that pop of the collar, Hutcherson showed some serious b-boy swag. All of Panem would be proud.

  • Jennifer Lawrence, Woody Harrelson & Emma Stone

This trio of celebs cut loose at an Adele concert in February 2016. As the Grammy singer performed "Rolling in the Deep," J. Law got particularly animated, waving her hands widly and even turning to Woody Harrelson and using her hands to mimic her heart beating out of her chest. Clearly looking cool and composed while dancing were not at the top of the Silver Lininings Playbook star's priorities — and that's all the more reason to love her.

  • Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson

A video posted by therock (@therock) on

After a presumably grueling cardio workout in May 2015, The Rock did a happy dance to iLoveMemphis's "Hit the Quan" and posted the clip on Instagram, ensuring every woman fond of his bulging biceps and dazzling smile would feel inspired to hit the gym (and maybe hit the quan too!).

  • Tom Hiddleston & Taylor Swift

Like something out of an Usher song, the DJ had Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift falling in love on the dance floor — specifically, while playing T.I.'s "Bring 'Em Out" at the Met Gala after-party in May 2016. Apparently, Hiddleston's fancy footwork — perfect pirouette and all — made Swift feel all warm and fuzzy inside because the two have been inseparable since!

  • Prince William & Kate Middleton

Prince William inherited many things — among them millions of dollars and the British throne — but, alas, rhythm is not on the list of things bequeathed to him. While on a visit to the South Pacific island of Tuvalu, Prince William and Kate Middleton donned colorful leis and grass skirts while shimmying to a traditional fatele. While Kate remained graceful as she attempted to mimic the dancers' steps, William went the improv route, at one point waving his hands as if performing some magic trick. Good thing being a good dancer isn't a prerequisite for being the king of England!

  • Justin Bieber at Coachella 2015

Was Justin Bieber doing the Running Man at Coachella last year? It's hard to tell with the flashing lights and shoddy camerawork, but this choreography certainly isn't worthy of his Purpose tour!

  • Kate Moss

How do supermodels pass the time when there's a lull at a photo shoot? Well, if you're Kate Moss, you reach for a fedora worthy of Michael Jackson's "Smooth Criminal" video and start working on some MJ-inspired moves to "Billie Jean." While she didn't moonwalk in this clip, Moss did reenact Michael's signature crotch grab. Even while goofing off, the fashion icon managed to look glamorous.

  • Robert Pattinson

Celebrities always seem to converge at the Coachella Music Festival, and even though some try their best to blend into the crowds, they're usually detected by at least one adoring fan. Twilight star Robert Pattinson was filmed swaying and bopping his head a bit too emphatically while watching Drake perform at Coachella in 2015.
