Blake Lively Says Eliminating 2 Types of Food Resulted in Her Best Bod Ever

Blake Lively diet

If this gorgeous celebrity mom is willing to spill the secrets to what keeps her in tip-top shape, we're all ears. Blake Lively shared how she got back to her pre-pregnancy shape eight months after giving birth to her daughter, James, and the good news is it's not as grueling as you might imagine.

So, just what helped the wife of Ryan Reynolds snap back in order to star (in a bikini!) in the beach-based thrilled The Shallows? It sounds like willpower topped the list.

Speaking with Aussie radio hosts Kyle and Jackie "O" Henderson, the 28-year-old dished on her diet strategy:

I did no gluten and no soy. Once you remove soy, you realize you're eating no processed foods. So that's basically what I did. No processed foods and then working out.

We've all heard about the potential benefits of eliminating gluten -- which basically means "bye-bye, bread!" -- but saying sayonara to soy is sort of a new one to us. Blake reveals that it was the most daunting part of the regime:

Seems like, 'Oh, that's really easy to cut that out,' but then you realize, there's soy in everything. Like, everything you eat, there is soy in it. Even if it's healthy, Whole Foods–organic stuff, there's always soy in it. Just try no soy and no gluten and watch how hard that is.

While it was no doubt a challenging undertaking, it totally paid off and Blake looked amazingly fit and healthy in the film. Of course, seeing the results was inherently motivating. The actress noted that following this protocol got her in the best shape of her life. She noted:

I've never been in that great a shape in my whole life. So to do it after having a kid was actually really nice. Because you see your body after having a kid and it's beautiful because you just gave birth, but it's also 'Oh my god, this is not what my body looks like.' You feel like you're never going to get your body back again.

But, boy, did she, and -- even better -- the mom wasn't really making too many sacrifices or going hungry to achieve her killer look. For example, rice and sushi remained on her menu.

It's great to learn that getting back into shape didn't force Lively to give up all her faves. As we know all too well, that almost never works in the long run. We have to wonder if the now-pregnant-again star will follow the same diet after her second baby arrives.

Her trainer, Don Saladino, puts Lively's health above her physical appearance, which is also awesome to hear. He told People:

This is not training a fitness competitor or a model. This is about feeding a woman who's got a child who's got to have certain nutrients in her body. She's got to take care of herself. She's got to eat healthy. The way that we did it was the right way, and it wasn't through starving her.

Whatever Blake is doing, it's definitely working, so we're more than happy to give it a try!
