Kanye West's Loving Birthday Tweet to His Late Mom Reminds Us He's Only Human

Kanye West and daughter, North West

I think we can all agree that Kanye West has often shown many sides of himself, ranging from musical genius to egotistical a**hole. However, one side that we rarely get to see -- a side that's seemingly reserved for his wife, Kim Kardashian, and their children -- is his sensitive side. In the time following his mother's death, he opened up to the public a bit. However, after a while, we went back to getting only small doses of his sentimental side. But today, on what would've been his mother Donda West's 67th birthday, we got to see that side again as he posted a heartfelt tweet about his mom and his baby girl, North West.

True to Kanye form (hey, it's still Kanye), the rapper posted this sweet message in all caps: "NORI ASKED IF THE AIRPLANE COULD TAKE HER TO HEAVEN TO SEE YOU FOR YOUR BIRTHDAY, I LOVE YOU MOM."

Donda died from complications after plastic surgery in 2007, way before North's time -- but that his daughter asks about her late grandmother is simply affirmation that we're all just human; we all just want to be loved by those who mean the most to us, and we all talk about and remember those with whom we wish we had more time. Despite egos and outer appearances and fame, there are still people who have the ability to make all of us see and feel things differently. For Kanye, that one person was his mother.

In fact, he even told Q magazine that he felt responsible for her death, back in 2015. Not wanting to elaborate on his comment, he told the magazine, "I don't want to go far into it because it will bring me to tears."

Furthermore, Kanye's post gave us insight into the kind of man that he is when it comes to his family -- he's the kind of man who presumably tells sweet tales of his beloved mother to his children. He's the kind of guy who tells the women in his life to dream big (because in his world that's the only way), and who loves and supports them unconditionally.

Despite all of Kanye's (at times) outlandish behavior, he's a stand-up man who truly is an outstanding parent and husband. And, quite frankly, I don't think we give him enough credit.

Sure, it can be difficult to see past some of his public outbursts and errors, but I challenge you to see what I see: a loving man and a heartbroken little boy, who dearly misses his mother.

Say what you will about the man, but at least give him that.
