Jessa Duggar Admits She Broke Courtship Rules While Dating Ben Seewald

Scandalous! The Duggar family has notoriously strict dating courtship rules, but it turns out that not all of them were strictly followed by some of their older children. Jessa (Duggar) Seewald recently admitted that she broke some rules when it came to getting to know her now-husband Ben.

Growing Up Duggar, by Jana, Jill, Jessa, and Jinger, is getting an update from its original 2014 publication, this time with stories from Jessa's courtship with Ben Seewald, as well as her sister Jill's relationship with her husband Derick Dillard.

One of the most infamous Duggar dating rules is that a courting couple must never be unsupervised. All dates include parents or siblings, and Jim Bob and Michelle are even copied on all text message exchanges.

So we were pretty surprised to learn that Jessa and Ben talked on the phone daily -- and with no supervision!

Don't worry though ... they weren't exactly getting hot and heavy imagining what their first kiss on their wedding day would be like. Jessa wrote:

The day Ben and I started courting, we began our tradition of calling each other on the phone every night! These were such special times. We would talk about everything from how our day went, to what we had been learning from our Bible reading, and then just anything else that we wanted to talk about. These calls were not 'chaperoned.' They were private -- just between the two of us.

Aww, we're so glad to hear that they had the opportunity to converse privately without being under the scrutiny of her family. It's got to be hard to get to know someone when you never get the opportunity to open up and show your vulnerable side.
