18 Celebrities Who Were Kicked Off Airplanes

The terms "celebrities" and "friendly skies" don't always go together. Over the years, many stars have been booted off airplanes before takeoff for refusing to follow basic regulations like fastening seat belts, remaining seated while the seat belt light is on, or turning off mobile devices when indicated. Some behaved so poorly mid-flight that they were restrained by crew members, greeted by police officers at their destinations, and forcibly escorted off aircrafts — yikes!

Quite a few stars were ejected from airplanes for bizarre if not downright troubling reasons. Find out if any of your favorite celebrities caused major turbulence!

1Kate Moss

Talk about needing a drink! Supermodel Kate Moss was escorted off an easyJet flight at London Ludon airport in June 2015 after squabbling with flight crew members and calling the pilot a "basic b*tch." The incident began when a flight attendant refused to serve a seemingly buzzed Moss alcohol, prompting the model to rummage through her luggage for her own vodka stash. When reprimanded, Moss allegedly became disruptive.

2Alec Baldwin

The 30 Rock star made headlines in December 2011, when he was booted off an American Airlines plane after refusing to turn off his cell phone before takeoff — all because Alec Baldwin wanted to play "Words with Friends." According to some reports, Baldwin was so furious over the request that he stood up, insulted the crew members, went to the bathroom with his phone, and slammed the door, prompting the pilot to return the plane to the gate and eject the actor. Baldwin denied acting so belligerently, but did admit he was unnerved by the flight attendant's "rude tone."

3Dave Chappelle

In July 2010, five years after David Chappelle walked away from his successful Comedy Central show, fueling rumors of a meltdown, the comedian had a major mid-air freak-out.  While aboard a private jet heading from New Jersey to Ohio, Dave Chappelle exhibited such erratic behavior that the pilot believed he posed a safety risk, opting to divert the plane to Piitsburgh in order to make an emergency landing.

4Selma Blair

Selma Blair was carried off a plane on a stretcher and rushed to a Los Angeles hospital. The Cruel Intentions actress was traveling back home with her ex, Jason Bleick, and their 4-year-old son, Arthur, after the family enjoyed a Father's Day getaway in Cancun, Mexico. During the flight, Blair allegedly went on a bizarre rant, then blacked out. Days later, Blair apologized via a Vanity Fair statement, saying she'd made the mistake of mixing alcohol with prescription medication. "I am a flawed human being who makes mistakes and am filled with shame over this incident," she said.

5Christian Slater

In 1994, Mr. Robot star Christian Slater boarded a Delta flight at with an unlicensed 9mm pistol in his carry-on luggage, resulting in his removal from the flight and swift arrest. Had he pulled that stunt post-9/11, he might have ended up flagged by Homeland Security and placed on a no-fly list. It being the early '90s, however, his Rambo-esque actions merely resulted in a community service sentence.

6Ivana Trump

Donald Trump's ex-wife Ivana Trump was tossed off a plane in Florida in December 2009 after screaming obscenities at a group of rowdy children who were running down the aisles, referring to them as "little f*cks." She became so hostile that the pilot returned to the airport terminal rather than remaining in the queue for takeoff. Deputies for the Palm Beach County sheriff had to escort Trump off the plane.

7Billie Joe Armstrong

Apparently, some Southwest Air employees consider saggy pants a dire offense. In September 2011, Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong was booted off an Oakland-to-Burbank flight for wearing his pants to low. According to reports, a flight attendant approached Armstrong and asked him to pull his pants up. "Don't you have better things to worry about?" he retorted. When the flight attendant repeated the request and Armstrong did not comply, he was unceremoniously kicked off the flight.

8Naomi Campbell

Given that she'd made headlines for chucking cell phones at her assistants, no one was particularly shocked when news surfaced that Naomi Campbell was kicked off a British Airways flight in April 2008. Allegedly, the hot-tempered supermodel went on a screaming rampage when told that one of the bags she'd checked was AWOL. Campbell's tirade was so extreme that she was handcuffed aboard the aircraft, escorted off the plane by police, and taken to the Heathrow police station.

9Dolores O'Riordan

Singer Dolores O'Riordan apparently had some lingering anger issues back in November 2014 when she caused a ruckus during a flight from New York to Shannon, Ireland. The lead singer of the Cranberries was arrested after becoming disruptive and stomping on a flight attendant's foot — all because she refused to sit down and buckle her seatbelt as the plane was landing. Even worse, when police came to arrest her, O'Riordan headbutted an officer and spat in his face. The air rage incident resulted in a $6,000 fine.

10Kevin Smith

In February 2010, actor/director Kevin Smith was ejected from a Southwest Air flight for being overweight. The Clerks director had purchased two seats on an Oakland-to-California flight but decided to fly stand-by on an earlier flight, purchasing the one remaining seat therein. Once seated, the flight crew determined he was infringing on the comfort of adjacent passengers and asked him to leave. Smith tweeted about the debacle, writing, "I broke no regulation, offered no 'safety risk' (what, was I gonna roll on a fellow passenger?)" Though the airline later apologized, Smith refused to fly Southwest Air for six years.

11Leisha Hailey

The LGBT community was outraged when, in September 2011, news surfaced that The L Word's Leisha Hailey was kicked off a Southwest Air flight for kissing her girlfriend, Camila Grey, who was sitting next to her. Apparently responding to a passenger complaint, a flight attendant asked the lesbian couple to refrain from any more PDA, noting theirs was a "family airline." Both Hailey and Grey voiced their outrage over the blatantly homophobic request, and they were escorted off the plane. "Southwest Air endorses homophobic employees," Hailey tweeted at the time. "I want to know what Southwest Airlines considers a family."

12Gerard Depardieu

When nature calls, Gérard Depardieu answers — even if it means public urination aboard an aircraft. After drinking several bottles of wine before boarding a CityJet flight in August 2011, the French actor felt a pressing need to relieve himself. A flight attendant, however, insisted he wait until the plane had taken off and reached the appropriate cruising altitude. Flustered, Depardieu scrambled to the back of the plane and attempted to pee into an empty bottle.  Urine inevitably splattered on the floor, and Depardieu was thrown off the flight — presumably with an empty bladder.

13Josh Duhamel

In December 2010, actor Josh Duhamel was escorted off an airplane in New York City for refusing to turn off his BlackBerry before takeoff. Despite repeated warnings, Duhamel continued texting on his device, even taunting nearby flight attendants, as the plane sat on the runway waiting for takeoff permission. In the end, all other passengers had to endure a delay as the plane had to return to the gate so Duhamel could be removed.

In 2006, Mo'Nique was kicked off a United Airlines flight following an argument over a hair dryer. The comedienne's hairstylist, who was flying coach, attempted to store Mo'Nique's dryer in first class (where the actress was sitting) after realizing there was no room in the overhead bins allotted for coach passengers. A crew member interrogated the hairstylist, then issued a warning to Mo'Nique. The actress became enraged, believing they were being racially profiled. "I felt like I was being treated like an animal," she said. "This happens to black people all the time, and they don’t have a voice. I have a voice."

15Liam Gallagher

As the lead singer of Oasis, Liam Gallagher won many critical accolades, and a reputation for being a jerk. The latter was solidified when the Gallagher earned himself a lifelong ban from Cathay Pacific in 1998. While flying from Hong Kong to Perth, Australia, a visibly drunk Gallagher ignored the airline's no-smoking policy and lit up a cigarette, threw food at other passengers for his own amusement, and subjected everyone on board to obscene and abusive language. It's been almost 20 years later, and Cathay Pacific has seemingly stuck to its guns, refusing to accommodate Gallagher or his cronies.

16Courtney Love

In February 2003,  musician Courtney Love was arrested for disruptive behavior and endangering an aircraft minutes after her Virgin Atlantic flight touched down in London from Los Angeles. During the flight, Love refused to take her seat and subjected the cabin crew to a slew of profanity-laden insults. Officers at Heathrow airport were notified of a disorderly passenger aboard the aircraft and, upon landing, they escorted Love off the plane and into a police van.

17Conrad Hilton

Conrad Hilton, brother of Paris and Nicky, put his brattitude on full display during a flight from London to Los Angeles in July 2014. Conrad Hilton's horrifying in-flight behavior spanned 10 hours — from before takeoff until landing. An investigation revealed he smoked weed and cigarettes in the airplane bathroom, wandered through the plane insulting and threatening crew members, and repeatedly yelled out, "I will f*cking own anyone on this flight; they are f*cking peasants!" When he eventually dozed off, flight attendants were authorized to restrain him using handcuffs, and he was arrested upon landing. Hilton was fined $5,000 and asked to complete 750 hours of community service after the debacle.

18Soulja Boy

All Soulja Boy needed to do was sit down and buckle his seat belt while an American Airlines flight attendant rattled off the requisite safety instructions. Instead, in an August 2013 incident, the "Crank That" rapper defied flight attendants' repeated instructions to remain seated, resulting in two armed officers removing the uncooperative passenger from the plane.
