Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar Accused of Blaming Orlando Victims for the Massacre

We really hope this is just a case of bad timing, and that Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar aren't blaming the victims of the Orlando shooting for the massacre. The former 19 Kids and Counting stars posted a Bible verse on their official Facebook page over the weekend, and critics believe that they were trying to place the blame on those who lived and/or supported a homosexual lifestyle.

Jim Bob and Michelle's stance on the gay community is hardly anything new -- they've been notoriously anti–LGBT rights for as long as we can remember, but we just can't imagine that they'd truly believe that gay people deserve to die.

Even so, they got quite a lot of critical responses when they posted this scripture reference over the weekend, mere hours after the Orlando shooting.

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. James 4:7-8."

One of the commenters wrote, "This choice of scripture smacks of self-righteous, sanctimonious, judgment. Have you no prayers or compassion for the victims of this horrific crime?"

Another chimed in, "Paul tells us to 'weep with those who weep.' In light of the present circumstances, that would have been a more appropriate verse to share, because that is the appropriate Christian response to this senseless tragedy."

While we sincerely hope that Jim Bob and Michelle don't actually believe that those murdered over the weekend deserved to die, we're still taken aback that they chose this verse to share with their followers in the wake of such a sickening act of violence.

You can believe what you want to believe, but it's never helpful to be insensitive to the suffering of others.
