Queen Elizabeth Had a Very Good Reason for Making Her Granddaughter Hold Her Purse in Royal Family Photo

Queen Elizabeth II, Captain-General of the Royal Regiment of Artillery, oversees a Royal Review on the occasion of their Tercentenary at Knighton Down in Lark HillIf a picture is worth a thousand words, this one speaks volumes. Her Majesty turned 90 years young last April, and that called for a huge celebration -- including ways to visually document the occasion. And while portraits aren't uncommon when dealing with royalty, there's a funny story on why Queen Elizabeth II's granddaughter holds her purse in this family photo.

At first glance, you might turn you head at the screen. With two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren (wowza), one has to ask why Mia Tindall is holding up the Queen's purse in this snap -- especially when no one else has anything in hand.

Did photographer/visual storytelling icon Annie Leibovitz think it would be a good prop? Did the Queen have a "diva moment"?

Welp, the answers are no and no. While Her Majesty did ask her great-granddaughter to take charge of her purse, it's not for the reasons you think.

Mike Tindall, Mia's father and a retired professional rugger (that's rugby), recently spoke with Good Morning Britain where he explained why his daughter had to hold the Queen's purse.

As Mike says:

It just happened at the right time. She was being a bit naughty. The Queen got it quite right when she told her "Just hold the handbag now," and she did that. It ended up being a great photo of her.

Haha, okay, that makes sense.

What a cute story that will make for a fun memory. Sure, Mia likely won't remember her 'tude that day, but at least the family can have a little fun in the future. The grandchildren will be like, "Hey, Mia. Remember when you were being bad and granny made you hold her purse?"

(Well, maybe they'll call her their "Grand Granny Majesty" or something.)
