It was a royal secret! At a garden party at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, Kate Middleton and Prince William had the chance to chat up -- and thank -- some of the members on the medical teams behind Prince George and Princess Charlotte's births. And when we say "team," we're talking about 20 people who met regularly to discuss anything and everything that could possible go wrong with the duchess's births. George and Charlotte had their own personal army before they were even born!

Luckily, everything went fine, but apparently, people -- including backups for Kate's regular doctor -- were on call for three months before the births of the royal babies. Dr. Johanna Bray, an anesthesiologist, told reporters, "I wasn't actually at the birth but I was behind the scenes. We were all on call for three months -- my husband did the childcare for three months! You never know when you need to be called. You need to be in town and available. If you are at a party you need to have your car keys at the ready. No drinking!"

Kate's royal team at St. Mary's included two obstetricians, three midwives, three anesthetists, four surgical staff, two special care baby-unit staff, four pediatricians, one lab technician, and three to four managers. Apparently, Kate wasn't even completely aware of just how much was going on behind the scenes, but she was incredibly gracious and thankful to the staff.

The 20-person team would meet regularly to discuss Kate's progress and talk about any issues that might arise. "Anything that could possibly go wrong, we had a team of people behind each specialty. Everyone was sworn to secrecy," Professor Tiong Ghee Teoh, backup to Kate's OB, revealed. The day both babies were born, though, everything ran smoothly. "She was a fit young woman, and that's the most important thing," he added.

To the world, everything having to do with both of Kate's pregnancies appeared so calm and laid-back, but, as we now know, there were a million and one people frantically working to ensure everything went perfectly.

Of course, reporters at the party also wanted to know when Kate plans on having another little bundle of joy. "That's the million-dollar question," Dr. Bray said. "Need-to-know basis!"

Well, at least we know if and when Kate decides to expand their family, they're in great -- really large -- hands.
