Drew Barrymore Gets Real About Divorce Making Her Feel Like a 'Failure'

drew barrymore divorce and failureLet's be honest: Divorce is rarely easy or uncomplicated -- even if it's something you've wanted for a while. Especially when you have children, ending a marriage can make you feel like you're letting people down. Drew Barrymore reveals that she feels like a "failure" following her recent split from husband Will Kopelman in a heartbreaking new interview that many women will relate to.

The beloved actress and mom of two daughters, Frankie, 3, and Olive, 2, opened up about her divorce -- and the shame she feels accompanies it -- on the premiere of Chelsea, Chelsea Handler's new Netflix talk show.

The 41-year-old spoke candidly about her emotions following the dissolution of her third marriage:

...when you get divorced you're like, 'I'm the biggest failure. This is the biggest failure.' It's so shameful and hard to actually go through that, even privately.

It seems so unusual to hear the actress share this, considering she seemed to move on from the splits of her two previous one-year marriages to Jeremy Thomas and Tom Green just fine.

We can't help but think that this time, with two young children involved, saying good-bye feels much different and far more painful.

When they made a joint statement on their split, Barrymore and Kopelman said:

Sadly our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family. Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on.

The fact that they're using the phrase "our family is separating" really hits home in terms of just how sad Drew must feel about this breakup. But, still, she shouldn't feel like a failure if she and Will tried to make their marriage work and realized it just couldn't.

While many couples attempt to stay together for the sake of their kids, if both parents are miserable, the children are going to feel it -- big-time. So, really, you're not necessarily doing them any favors.

We hope Drew feels better in time and revels in the love and support of the friends and fans who adore her. And if their Mother's Day photos are any indication, it looks like her relationships with Kopelman's mom and sister and doing just fine!

While things might still feel raw and painful for Drew, we're hoping her best days are still ahead of her!
