Although Prince Charles is the next heir to the throne, Queen Elizabeth is still making sure Prince William and Kate Middleton are ready when their time comes to take over the monarchy. While the Duke of Cambridge has been off on an official visit to Kuwait, the Queen has given two special honors to the Duchess of Cambridge -- one being a sure-fire sign she's confident Kate is ready to be queen consort one day.

On Monday, Kate attended a reception at Buckingham Palace for NATO leaders.

In addition to Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles, Kate was one of the only senior members of the royal family to attend.

And for what it's worth, Kate has obviously gotten very confident and comfortable in her role, as well. Look at how at ease the duchess looks, chatting with world leaders and dignitaries. Go, Kate!

And even more impressive? The fact that the Queen just passed on one of her patronages to Kate.

On Wednesday, the Kensington Royal Instagram page shared a series of photos of Kate at a Christmas tree farm with families from Family Action.

Alongside the photos, the palace shared the exciting news, writing:

"Today, The Duchess of Cambridge became Royal Patron of @Family_Action. Her Majesty The Queen has passed the patronage to The Duchess having held the role for over 65 years ... The new patronage aligns with The Duchess’s longstanding work on the early years, and the importance of supporting children and families during this seminal period of their lives."

In addition to the photos, the palace also shared a sweet holiday video of Kate engaging with children and their families.

So cute!

It goes without saying that Kate is an excellent choice to take over this patronage of Queen Elizabeth's -- and Family Action is incredibly excited to work with Kate.

"Family Action is honored that The Duchess of Cambridge has become our Royal Patron," David Holmes, the chief executive of Family Action, said in a statement. "Everyone at Family Action would like to extend our thanks to Her Majesty for her steadfast support and encouragement to us over so many years. I have seen The Duchess's passionate support for disadvantaged families first-hand and have been impressed by her leadership in understanding and promoting the vital importance of the Early Years. Family Action looks forward to working with The Duchess in the years to come."

From important banquets to even more important charity work, it's obvious Kate is ready to be queen.

She may have some time to go, but when the time comes for her to reign, Kate is going to be more than ready.

And we will be, too. No offense, Charles.
