Jennifer Lawrence Doesn't Want You to Think Her Body's 'Normal'

Jennifer Lawrence at Academy Awards

While the body-positivity movement has begun to challenge some of Hollywood's beauty standards in recent years, it's still painfully obvious that many women are still struggling to separate the glitz and glam from reality. But Jennifer Lawrence is here to remind you of just that -- the reality! Which is that she (as she's previously admitted) enjoys eating, but, in turn, she works crazy-hard to have the body that so many people refer to as "normal." And she thinks it's high time to change what it is that we consider the norm

Because the truth is, she's just a regular girl like the rest of us. (You know -- without the paparazzi.) She has to hit the gym so that she can eat whatever the hell she wants, because despite what many seem to believe, her hot bod wasn't, in fact, God-given ... it's more like man-made

JLaw told the mag:

I would like us to make a new normal-body type. Everybody says, 'We love that there is somebody with a normal body!' And I'm like, 'I don't feel like I have a normal body.' I do Pilates every day. I eat, but I work out a lot more than a normal person.

I think there are a few lessons to be learned from JLaw's speaking out about this -- one being that you can have anything with a little hard work and dedication (for those of us who don't have the metabolism of a jackrabbit). If you want the donuts, have the damn donuts, but if you want your ideal bikini body, you may have to hit the gym in the aftermath -- and that's perfectly OKAY. But nothing comes easy, despite the airbrushed images the media feeds us.

Second, it's almost scary that while we've come so far, we still have so much farther to go -- a fact that she highlights when she states, "I think we've gotten so used to underweight that when you are a normal weight it's like, 'Oh, my God, she's curvy.' Which is crazy."

The reality is that the standard body image of the past has, in a way, jaded our views of the current norm in Hollywood -- and we tend to forget that in both Hollywood and the real world, "normal" is different for everyone. Although many are impressed by her "natural" curves, Lawrence dishes, "The bare minimum, just for me, would be to up the ante." She adds, "At least so I don't feel like the fattest one." Essentially she's admitting that she too faces the day-to-day pressures of the media's impossible beauty standards.

As per usual, we love that she hasn't quilted together this picture-perfect image, making us believe that it comes easy to her. It makes for a good conversation amongst young women -- we can finally take a step back and realize that it's totally okay if you aren't born a "natural" size four or ever even want to be one. It also provides a mere understanding of what it is to embrace the essence of you.
